This is something that I have been thinking for quite some time and I am a bit reluctant to implement it for my directory. I live in Europe and I was thinking of changing my prices to Euros. Do you think that a change like that will affect the number of submissions I get?
We have done transactions for years best to keep to USD, a lot of countries have their own country currency set against the USD$ This is our opinion only but we backed it up with results!
That's what I am thinking as well, however I am thinking that if someone wants to submit he will submit irrespectively of the currency. Maybe I should hire someone to write a mod where the submitter will be able to choose between different currencies.
I don't think it would hurt. Elib charges in Euro IIRC. Many directories charge in pounds. If you want to be on the safe side, just say something like "this is approximately $X in US dollars".
dkessaris, why not add some additional code for a 'selectable' exhange type? So basically just as you would select the 'type' of listing (e.g. feat., reg, reg w./recip), the end user can select a 'currency type' that will automatically adjust to reflect the pricing. []us - $ []euro - € [X]pound - ₤ [X]featured - 10 []Regular - 5 []Regular with reciprocol - 2 []Free So now when you send off and away to paypal you can have the currency already setup for you based on currency type and submit it as usd, pound, etc etc... Just food for thought. Rob
The problem normally more tan 50% submissions are from US sites, the ideal is let the client chose but then you have to manually update the prices for currency conversion. In the end I decided to just left it in USD because is the standard and is how people compare your price with others, also normally your directory expenses are in USD so it makes sense you don’t have to make any conversion when paying.
Americans ( proudly one myself) are probably way less likely to feel comfortable with a foriegn currency than Europeans whom deal with other currencies/languages/culture all the time. I'd suggest keeping it in US currency. Kinda like the metric system, etc.
