Since there are many sites out there that are not listed in directories, you have proof these sites are not effected???
It takes time for Googlebot to crawl through all the sites on the internet and then for the algo to calculate new PR values. Also, there is a time lag of up to six months between Google's current true internal PRs and the public PRs displayed on the Google toolbar. For these reasons, it will take time for the effect to spread and become publicly visible. But it will still happen.
Surprised to see authority directories like aviva move down in PR. Haven't noticed a change in PR in my sites.
Probably this is all geared at sending clients to the NEW way of ADwords http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=4938730&postcount=73 thx malcolm
I caught it late last night as well. I didn't want to be the bearer of bad news, but it does appear to be a manual adjustment because most (actually ALL that I checked) dropped 2 rungs from their original PR from start of Q2. Any word on changes to sub categories?
if every site dropped by 2 pegs, would not everything still stay relative, ? the sky is falling rubbish is not worth wasting time on.
Couldn't agree more... Given the time its been since there has been a proper pr update i would believe that time is very near. But its a complete sweep not just directories.
The effect will be diluted as it spreads away from the affected directories and other big sites. So most sites will drop by less than "two pegs"
I think that is because all sold sponsor links ... more to add is phpbb.com < pr 6 from pr 9 cssremix.com << pr 4 from pr 6
i too ran the PR checker. http://www.top100bloggers.com/ was pr5 now pr4 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/longterm/olympics1998/history.htm was 4 now 3 http://www.absolutecross.com/tutorials/photoshop/ was 5 now 3
If all thats evolving is true then this is a human 'cherry picking cull' excercise on behalf of Mr G It all looks to me like it will backfire in a big way right back in the face of Mr G
Directories seem to have received a 2 PR haircut from Google. I suspect sites that achieved their PR largely based on directory submissions will also lose some PR as theorized. Other sites that have a better balance of inbound links may not have a PR change at all. I can't speak for other dir owners, but as I look around at the others directories with the new PR haircuts it makes me a lot less concerned about mine! It's like we all just arrived back at bootcamp and had our heads shaved. Time to do some push-ups, chin-ups, run, run, run, and eat crappy food for a short while. It's not the end of web directories... there will just be far fewer of them as the weak quit bootcamp!
Certainly looks like its a paid link penalty... a large travel site (so nothing to do with directories or even webmasters) I know of has gone from a PR5 to a PR3, they were selling site wides...
Goguides, Skaffe and WoW went back to PR5, the page rank we had prior to the backlink algorithm implementation several months ago. This was the average PR for a quality directory for a long time and personally I'm glad to see it back. Google is simply raising the bar to a higher level for page rank.
ummm YIP i believe thiers alot that will be leaving the industry.. Drop , duck, roll, just hang tight cause its going to be a bumpy road ahead BUT those with vision we still make it... thx malcolm
Well nobody believed before that it was hand pick but anyway I do agree that it is a good thing to go the way it is. Quality will prevail and the junks will be phased out while the ones who are thinking to set up a directory for a quick buck will think twice now. But good luck to everyone though and best wishes for your sites.
