I own a domain I intend to turn into a regional directory and am looking for advice on how best to get something like this up and running. Basically I want to include business listings for the state, but to make it more valuable I also want to include maps, movie listings, etc. Anyone point me to a resource for importing data based on region?

I don't need state abbreviations, I need ideas on how to gather information for a state such as Texas. Where to go to get all the counties and cities in Texas and where to go to automagically gather all the listings for dentists, auto mechanics, movie theatres, etc. Basically a phone book style directory for a particular state.

Best is to use the yellow pages for that region to start building resources.
Also try calling local tourist and information centers.

That's what I was afriad of - manually having to add data. I think I will target specific topics and just work on adding them over time. Thanks for the input.

Forget the rest, go for the best, the phpLynx script was specfically designed to cater for your every whim. With maps you'll need Google api, our support team will sort that out for you.
