a directory forum that has been sold has taken off my link, I took the link off from my forum as well. No bid deal, it happens ...
I always check whether it is free or paid listings if it is in correct category. It is very time consuming task. But For my Directory it is worth. I spend a lot of time with my directory and I always give my full Best effort to make it cleaner, Quality base and Informative directory
I agree, but I'm sure some of the sales span different countries; I wonder how enforceable a contract is from US to India or something... I wonder if one of the guys that post in the "legal" section here could write a standard simple contract for that to help preserve the investments of some of the DP members...
Dont you think we should also run its past the guys at Google just to make 100% sure we are on the right road
EducationLinks, I have sent you a PM so I can get to bottom of your upload problem. Anyone else having trouble? Chad
Why would a directory owner use no follow tags on the paid links? Isn't that just bad for business? What does the diretory owner have to gain by doing this?
Now THIS is an interesting NEW discussion about directories. Many good points made and many angles to be considered when mulling over this dilemma. My directory offers permanent listings for a review fee of a few bucks. What exactly are my obligations to those customers? Maybe I should add some fine print beneath the offer for 'permanent'* listings. (* listings will remain in BigGuide permanently unless site is sold or closed with full refunds issued for any listing added less then 12 months prior to the transaction.) Thoughts on this fine print? Another point: I suspect that if you reviewed those directories that "shafted" you by removing your links entirely you'd find that they were of virtually no value to you any way. The more valuable the listing is, the more valuable the directory is, to BOTH you AND the owner so the chances of a problem occurring as described is greatly reduced imo. One last point... Chris (eWebPages) has made some bold statements and I, for one, greatly appreciate his frankness. He's 'spot on' in his remarks so although he didn't sugarcoat his opinions someone had to throw them on the table. My conclusions: - Removing of links w/o good cause is not appropriate and should not be tolerated. - Removing of links after the sale of a directory is not good, but I'm not aware of any way to prevent this in some instances. - Removing of links via closing down a directory stinks, but 'stink happens'. - Moving links within a directory to improve it's quality should be done as seldom as possible, but it should be up to the owner. <. Cheers
The only reason a submitter would have cause to complain is if the Directory Master is selling links. Why? Doesn't make sense.
Great post 'EducationLinks'! (Rep added). Very relevant and dead on the money as far as some of these cowboy directory owners are concerned. Right now I'm caught up in a farcical situation with a certain directory owner who is selling up and removing a link I had paid for on a permanent basis. One begs the question as to if I hadn't come across his sales pitch in the marketplace section whether I would have got my money back. That said even after contacting him I'm still waiting for his promise of compensation. Maintaining link placement is all part and parcel of owning a directory, removing them prematurely can seriously count against you in the long run.
Reorganising and reordering directory lists is an integral part of managing any directory. It should be encouraged unless you are buying the links.
