How do you fight/prevent spammers and spam submissions. looks like this has become a real headache! Few weeks ago i found a spammer bypassing image verification and have been receiving automated submissions from various IPs. Something like 1. What sort of spam you get? 2. What you do to prevent such spammers? If you have any tips or useful information on such cases, please share with the community.
upgrade to 3.10 pretty much would solve your problems. For me, after upgrade to 3.1, no spam at all and I even turned down the image verfication.
For a very low price SPAM GUARD by Anon. I use to have those and now after installing it NADA as NONE as in NO MORE as In NO MAS.
3.1 does it, but how do we kill those Top categories submitters, thats what I want to know I've enabled registration at wwws.org and only a few submissions.(hooray!) since 80% are Top Category submitters and 19% spammy's I guess I can still allow "quality sites" for free...Just need t register.
use image verification on a low setting and it works.... the hard ones are too annoying and most people dont bother submitting.
i have never got that type of stuffs before. usually i get other types of problems, like the reciprocal url has not links etc. that is actually a useless spam, why would people like to do that
They have been mostly wiped out... only those that do by hand.. and if they wish to waste their time it takes me all of a mila-second to take out of my database and wipe clean 3.6 is my weopon of choice and works better then any others IMHO. + an0ns spam gaurd works very well..... thx malcolm
Simple captcha still works, well at least it still works for me. Got a lot of them daily according to my logs, but they seems unable to bypass the captcha yet.
I use 3.06 on all my directories and I got hit hard for a few days by a spammer similar to the one of the original poster, except he used BBcode like in it: This guy hit would sumbit this crap like 200 times a day. So I edited the submit.php to "weed" out all the submissions that included that BBcode URL crap. In the 3.06 submit.php, I found this code: And then added this after it: Now anything that includes the "[url=" in the description doesn't get submitted and the user gets sent to another website (http://www.amishrakefight.org/gfy/) for some verbal abuse. If the spammer you are having troubles with uses normal HTML anchor links in the description, you can use this code instead: // Check Description for SPAM if (preg_match("/\href=/i", $data['DESCRIPTION'])) { Header("Location: http://www.amishrakefight.org/gfy/"); return; } Now anything that has "href=" will be sent to the Go F*ck Yourself page.
This is why its PR5 Malcolm You are the 11278787th one to go f*ck yourself since 3/22/97 Thats 11,278,878 thats 11 million thats a lot of folk that have Been told go away sexually
I have bought myself Ak47 and have hired a 24/7 availability hitman, for spammers . Best way to fight spam i think..
That might be hard to store in my basement, but was thinking of buying http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-personnel_mine
