I've recently started MoonDirectory and have already been getting abusive emails and submissions if I reject a site. How common are they for you? I personally try to communicate with the site owner so that I can find out what I did wrong, or they can find out why I rejected them. Dan
Really? That's sounds crazy. You don't own them anything, just delete the emails and move on because you are going to be rejecting a lot more than you can handle.
I always ignore the abusive ones. I always reply to emails asking why they got rejected though. It helps everyone. Dan
Hehe. I learned a long time ago to NOT use rejection emails (at least for free submissions). You will reject the vast majority of the crap that is submitted. And then these crap site owners will email asking you why? In almost every case, it should be obvious to the submitter why he was rejected (not follow rules, MFA, spammy, affiliate, etc.). It's a waste of time to be replying to all those emails (or to the abusive ones), time better spent elsewhere. Just my opinion though.
I agree better to not use rejection e-mail's on free submissions, you are asking for trouble… Some folks just don't get it...
hrmmm.. i've yet to get a bad email. Lets see how todays paid rejections handle it. I've received nothing but good emails and compliments. /me shrugs.
I've had 2 complimentary emails ever. 2 abusive ones. And 2 asking why something was rejected. I do like the idea of turning off the rejection email though. If things get worse, I'll probably turn the notification off.
I've never received a nasty email from any submitter as of yet... *knock on wood* I agree with the others suggestions, it might be a good idea to turn off the rejection emails for now.
I've never had any abusive communications to do with a directory rejection. That might be because I don't gather emails at all, so rejection/acceptance emails just don't go out. I probably reject a higher percentage of submissions than most, so it's not because I'm lenient and let everyone in. I suppose this works because people assume I haven't added their sites because I haven't got around to it, and not because they are already rejected. Personally I do prefer to get a rejection email rather than not knowing, since I can get a better idea of how strict a directories' policy is, and it makes my Excel file a lot neater. But not everyone has thick skin, so simply not saying anything can make a lot of sense.
I have the rejection emails turned off, I hate when I receive emails asking why my site was rjected etc and when I reject a paid submission I just put a comment in the Notes section of the refund.
i dont send rejection emails for that reason.. i get alot of nice emails tho and alot of spam through the contact form
Weve just started accepting links and the only one I had a problem with was someone I rejected as link not found and site not found. turned out theyd put the wrong letters at the end of the URL and thats what it was but in all fairness no abuse just about 3 or four WHY GOD WHY emails!
I am glad I read this. I read fully the submission guidelines before I submit. I too would like to know why my submission was rejected.
