Lately I have been getting quite a few submissions that do not use a name (eg: john doe) but instead use things like: thisisanicesitetovisit loseyourvirginity http://www.whateversite dot com Directory owners, do you accept sites that are submitted using such weird names? Plus I have noticed an uptick on sites submitted that do not even bother having a description.
Hi iowadawg, Yes to everything you said, and no I do not accept submissions with strange names or passwords like "123456". I used to, then I realized these submitters aren't interested in position and most of the time are just trying to promote affiliate sites. As far as I'm concerned, they can post in the FREE classified ad sites. Directories are a little more refined than that... LOL!! This may also be coming from submission software... Not sure about that though.
Submission like this earn an instant delete. I have had a few over the past months. I often wonder why someone would bother entering the information. It takes 2 mins to enter it and takes me .5 of a sec to delete it.
Very interesting, I say no to all of them as we only get quality links, not bragging at all or against you guys, but that's kind of weird how you're getting that. It also depends on where you advertise your site to as well.
That being said, what do you directory owners think of a submission where the name is a nickname. Not a full first and last name. I submitt using a nickname, unless the submit form specificaly asks for first and last name. I seem to be getting accepted most of the time, as far as i know. The odd reviewer may reject it but i dont know.
If directories wouldn't accept nicknames approved links would be a lot less. If you want you can give a fake name anyway, so a decent nickname won't hurt.
We check the quality of site submitted User name or password is not important. For example if somebody submit a important site like yahoo.com what does it matter what is the username or password. If the site is quality site directory editor should list it.
i go by my guidlines, if the actual site is ok to be listed then it gets listed. if there is a queue of 6 sites by weird names all submitted after each other and the first is spam i delete the other 5 too.
Yes, I would delete it too. There's alot you can tell from a URL. If it looks like www.the-best-source-for-e-web-supplements.net, you can pretty much know it's not the highest quality I also delete if the Title is stuffed with keywords, rather than an actual title.
Unless the name is: this directory stinks or the directory owner sucks or the yankees are better than the red sox
That yahoo submits their site yahoo.com to any of my directories, is the day I will accept any and all MFA sites! I do delete those MFA sites in a heartbeat...you know the ones, when you open them up, all you see is a header and adsense ads...have to scroll to find out what the site is about. Those, when I open them, I delete at once. But really, if someone submits a site and can not be original when it comes to names (and once in a great while, email address) and puts down weird characters for a name...delete. Or just today on one of my directories, someone submitted using a bad email address...so here come some bounces. Had to hunt down the links and delete them.
Those aren't the worst because it is easy to spot them, I have received quite a few submissions of sites that looked even nice at first glance, good design no or very little adsense etc BUT either all the inner pages are affiliate pages or the links to the internal pages don't work. In the first case it is obvious what they are trying to achieve, in the second in my opinion they are trying to create a large number sites with some pr and link strength in order to point that pr and link strength to other sites.
Just to add a few checks I do even if the site looks legit If they have a phone number I google it to see how many sites share the same phonenumber. (I use the superdragandgo firefox extension) I google a random piece of text to see if appears in any other sites (I use the superdragandgo firefox extension) I do a yahoo explore of the url (I use the yExplore firefox extension) Always check the about us page if it exists. Ctrl+A (to avoid linking to bad neighborghoods) If it's a shop I add a product to the cart and click checkout to see if it's a legit shop.
i do that also, if it redirects elsewhere (anywhere other then a ssl cert. host that is) then its deleted, same with resselers of templates, scripts etc.
I would guess that a few of the bogus entries would be by those leery of unwanted emails, etc. but most are probably just bogus all around. Many paid submitters are probably trying to "mask" themselves too
The correct name or even email address or really not important. The website should be judged on its own merits. Many webmasters are trying to protect themselves from unscrupulous webmasters.
A working email to be accepted. I am talking about the bounce backs because of bad email addresses. If a submitter wants to use a fee email account, no problem with me as long as it does not bounce back. Now my directories are getting bombarded with tons of sites that are nothing more than MFA's. Just collections of articles, but when the site comes up, nothing but adsense shown. Some sites do not even have content on the main page, just adsense ads and links to articles. Deleted with no problems by me.
