    David, when you make this mod part of the regular phpld script, make sure to give more options than just listed/not listed.

    I allow recips in two of my directories, and I do check for the other party's link. If they have hidden it or placed it on a geocities page or some other "slimey" tactic, I still list their link, but I put a nofollow tag in it. They're obviously only wanting the link for SEO purposes, so I deprive them of that. I do want a couple of good directories that are still usable to humans though, so I leave the link there for traffic purposes.

    Probably. My directories are still new and young though, so I'm just happy to see anything that isn't a blank page.

    I accept about 1 out of 10 listings. I really don't care about quantity.

    I don't link to spammy sites either, but I think there is a difference between spammy and non-reciping bastages. A site may have a prick for a webmaster but still offer value to a visitor. I am looking for sites that offer value to surfers; my recip directory is not strictly for SEO purposes. I like to offer an SEO boost to good webmasters, but my ultimate goal with my recip directory is offering valuable sites to visitors.

    I think about 50% of links in a link exchange eventually end up being removed probably unintentionally as webpages are updated. By the time the webmaster discovers, it is usually due to a loss of PR. You can try

    www.linkscitadel.com

    and it will check all partners robot.txt, metatags, nofollow, noindex, and other techniques to hide a link. It offers 3-way linking if you have more than 1 site.

    it will still pass pr, however it is done to stop him/her losing visiters.
    add this break frames code to your page and it should force your page to open in a full page.

    <!-- ONE STEP TO INSTALL BREAK FRAMES:

    1. Paste the coding into the BODY of your HTML document -->

    <!-- STEP ONE: Copy this code into the BODY of your HTML document -->

    <BODY>

    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">

    <!-- This script and many more are available free online at -->
    <!-- The JavaScript Source!! http://javascript.internet.com -->

    <!-- Begin
    if (window != top) top.location.href = location.href;
    // End -->
    </SCRIPT>
    </CENTER>

    It seems that you should check whether a page with reciprocal link is indexed by requestin Google's cache for instance.
    I admin directory Business Catalog 4Clever at http://business.4clever.com and think I will introduce this rule as well.
    Many thanks for alarm ;)
