Directory on existing site

I have many travel sites like the one in my signature that get a fair amount of organic traffic. I was thinking of adding 2 directories on these sites one for local business listings only and the other a niche travel directory.

Do you think this is a good idea?

Can you think of anyway that this might hurt my site as far as my organic traffic is concerned?

I've seen sites that have directories too and in my opinion they do succeed.

 

Just be careful who you link out to from your directories. A directory in and of itself won't hurt your site. However, if you link out to a bunch of spammy websites who link back to you as a reciprocal it could hurt you. In addition, make sure the outgoing links relate to your site.

 

Yeah sure go ahead, just make sure you actually REVIEW your submissions.

I'm going to do it and I will carefully review each site. I figure I'll require them to have a pagerank, be at least a year old and lots of good content of course before I approve them.
