I'm starting my first directory. Do any of you who own directories have any pointers on how to get this thing off the ground. I know I need to submit my directory to directories. I know announcing it in forums helps. But do you have any other pointers? What has really help make your directory successful?

    Thanks :)

Don't be afraid to add authority sites yourself. Empty categories are a no-no so if you need to add one hunt around for a quality site that fits. Usually they wouldn't submit anyway so it's not like you are losing anything and it makes the page look good to both humans and bots.

Make the directory your #1 priority and you will succeed.

Thanks for the info everyone. I didn't no if it was right to add sites to your directory with out the owners doing it manually.

What do you guys think about putting Adsense in your directories? Will you make more in the long haul by eventually charging for directory submissions instead of having Adsense?

I've only had one site object to being in my directory unsolicited. I kept them in however as I couldn't see the problem and I've heard no more from them.
