Directory Listing is dead?

There is a problem to find a good Web-Directories with PR3 or PR4 which are give you a free submission, but if you already found such places, let us know or share the link, and we could testify that W-Directories are not still dead

Yes, directory submission still good for creating backlinks. I have many back links from directory site. But its take a long time and back links have their expiry date.

 

The fact is that 91% Directories have the same registration fields and categories which means they are identical in code. In that way, your internet promotion becomes an exercise in futility. There is almost no invented innovations in Directories mechanism since 1996. One or two had created a few Directories engines at once and then everybody began to clone it.

 

Well, they are not dead at all. The reason is when you list your content, you atleast make most of your online appearance. Positive content can get you more audience

I've never been a fan of using standard categories. However, that doesn't mean all directories are the same. It's about how well those categories are held to topic and how well-written the descriptions are. Unless they are sharing the same database, there is no way that any two directories will be the same any more than two Wordpress sites using the same theme will be the same.

 

Don't wast your time ...
For me quality directories backlinks can increase SERP position, but convertion and sales, for many websites are very very important. This is my opinion.

 

yes, I prefer directories submission for Google ranking and also it helps to generate back links.

fact number 1 = there many Website Directory got High PR after 4th Feb 2013 Update. so we can see google still loves Website Directory.

In my opinion, quality directories are still good! They are not dead!
The reason is that you can still see Google backlinks coming from directories!!! If Google do not like them then these backlinks are not existing!

 

Yes, I do agree with people in favor of directory submission except do not submit using free software and any other licensed software. Every body want to be listed in DMOZ its a directory.

we submit our business sites to business directories, yellow pages, local directories why??

When I search for a service provider in my local city Google comes with some contact numbers from yellow pages. Why????

Let's talk about back link - Something is better than nothing but please careful about your past back links. If you submit a site or article keep track of your past links. Is they are maintain quality or spamming the site. I know it's quite difficult.

We do not do directory submission because we are not able to find good directories and cannot afford price for paid submissions. Instead of directory submission we use Article Exchange, Social Bookmark quite easy way to get a back link.

I would like to say Directory Submission is good if you are doing for a quality site not for spamming sites. I did achieve top 3 ranking for keyword "wholesale childrens clothing" by just directory submission. Do not excited and generate hundreds of back links with in a day. If you keep patience and follow some rules definitely every single back link will help you to improve the SERP.

1. Use 50-50 anchor text for create back link let's say your keyword is wholesale clothing uk. Do not create all back links for this keyword only. Use click here, domain name (xxxxxx.com), visit this site, another useful resource as a anchor text. In nutshell diversification of keyword.

2. Do not think like a webmaster. Take it as you are the owner so every page is important for you. Like parent care for their every child. Create back link for categories, sub - categories, contact us page, About us page, privacy policy, Uses term, Copy right, every product.

3. Create some no follow links to coming from some authorized wikis.

4. Use 70 - 30 ration between follow and no follow links.

I am sorry I deviate from the thread topic. Directory submission is good especially Deep linking.

That's just an obvious misconception, as some friends said .

A directory listing can't hurt you unless you just spam spammy directories which are filled with dead links / expired domain , porno , casinos and those links are not reviewed and categorized by humans in the directory.

I wonder how some people still use automatic submission software and expect an accurate result, for your knowledge most people have stopped using that automatic submission strategies since 2006 .

 

There are two main problems with the directory industry right now:
1. PageRank manipulators that sell links but don't focus on quality like this one.
2. Auto approve type operations where links are sold in bundles along with blog spamming, profile spamming and other techniques that produce extremely poor links.
It is no wonder people have lost some faith in directories with this going on. It's going to get better, but I can totally understand people thinking of directories as spam sites. They aren't all that way, but many are and right now the bad guys is making more money in the industry than the good guys who focus on making a quality directory. It won't be this way forever. People will always need to link documents together, and the people who make good sites will be around decades from now. They others we will soon forget about.

 

I noticed that recently more and more directories (spammy but also some quality ones) are getting hit by Penguin because of over-optimization. I probably won't get the answer as it's hard to tell but does a link from a site hit by Penguin (or Panda) increase chances that the site itself will get hit by Penguin/Panda? Time will tell I guess. Or lets just everybody dump Google and we do not have to worry about such a bullshit anymore.
