I'm starting to think that google nulled the value of most directory links. Lots of sites losing 1-2 PR Directories are obvious link farms Many sites get their PR from directories What does everyone else think?
I think the directory industry is not dead yet. It has been hit, it's true, but links from directories still have PR juice even if it is less than in the past. If they hadn't, Google would have assigned a PR0 to them all or banned them directly.
I know I'm sure a lot of people have gained a lot from directory link building. The thing is, the directories are being hit hard which is probably why a lot of sites have lost some PR
I think that directory links still have some value. And directory submissions are still one of the most efficient ways (in time and money) to get links. Also, remember that some other types of links have also been devalued during the past couple of years. So directory links are still relatively good in comparison.
Well, in my case, one of my sites had Pr2. I had never bought any links (had only about 10 natural links), do not have any links pointing out either. The site was about 5/6 years old. For the first time, end of September, I had the site submitted to about 1000 directories. The result was that PR went from PR2 to PR0. I do not know if this drop is a direct consequence of this directory submission but...
Dmoz is a PR 10 directory I believe and I didn't notice any boost in my rankings from getting listed?
DMOZ probably still holds a lot of value with Google because Google still uses DMOZ titles in their SERPs. The others though, have lost a considerable amount of value.
The best example is directories are like candle which burns inside (losing PR) and gives others (sites) light (giving good PR to other sites)
