Is the method still effective or dead... Not a craze now as it used to be a couple of yrs ago... Even i have shifted to Article directories and blogging..Any one has exp..
I won't say its dead but yes its not the most effective method for link building these days. You won't be getting any PR juice from links on directories...too many links. These days emphasis is on quality, rather than quantity.
I think they can still serve a purpose as a small part of a link building campaign, especially links at niche directories having to do with your business or keyphrase that you are targeting.
It's not dead, but Google has certainly devalued it for links that are more difficult to build. If you have a good manual submission source it is still worth the $20 or so, but probably not much more then that.
I think it is still valid. I could find many backlinks still from good PR directories. As long as the directory has some quality and PR your links will be counted I think.
The site in my signature is strickly being promoted via directories and forums. There has been some natural linking occurring over the years. But that is where my focus has been since creating the site. I can still see an increase in sales from 2-7 days after I perform a mass semi-manual directory submission using IBP. Rankings are still performing well for the keywords I am targeting. Why knock what still works?
Directory submission technique still works in building up backlinks. However, this technique requires more time and effort compared to other link building methods....
Directories are less effective way of building the links. Most directories takes a lot of time to submit the links.
I used to submit to multiple directories quite often, but now I lost interest in doing it, it is not dead but I think there are some good alternatives.
I think we are getting away from the question here. The original post was in regards to if the directory link building method was dead. I am sure we can all agree that the method is not dead. There is still benefits from posting your link and anchor text/description to directories. It should be considered during your link building campaigns. Even though there are other methods such as social media, article advertising, etc that some would say is where your main focus should be, there are benefits to each. Some take more time while others do not. But the main goal is to round out your link building efforts to amass as many different kinds of relevant back links to your site from authority pages/sites. After all it could be those 5-10 back links from decent directories that put you ahead of your competition in the SERPS. Especially if you have been researching and copying your competitors methods
