    Hi

I have installed a PHP free directory script to a site to find it not working properly, After asking on the forum who made the directory script I was told that it was proberly due to the mod_rewite not turned on. So after asking the guy whos site it is he says yeah you only get that with the top hosing package so it is not available to use.

I am still very new and am unclear on just what this means anyways but is there anything I can do?

I need a directory to work but have no mod_rewite.

I also mentioned about custom .htaccess files cos I have tryed one I normally use (non www redirect to www) and it dont work. Also the directory needs this option I was told.

When I mentioned this to the guy whos site it is he has setup an .htaccess admin account and folder, I have never had to use one of these so dont have a clue what to do.

I am just lost now and dont know what to do, I am amazed that a paid hosting account does not have these features as the free ones I have used in the past have.

    Hope someone can hlep.

    Cheers John

Contact the host, that doesn't sound like a good host with those disabled, almost every customer would need to use it at some stage or another and it should be included on all packages, it doesn't cost the host anything.

I was thinking much the same.

It is crazy to have a paid hosting service without these features enabled, as you say it dont cost nothing, it is just a matter of settings for the sever software isnt it?

    Thanx John

Yeah that's all it is, I have no idea why they would disable it...

Hope they can help you anyway :)
