I have been thinking of some change for my paid option at my directory. What is your opinion of the value for a PR3 page? I think one of the things many people might consider is the real traffic from the directory you submit to. But then, unless it's Yahoo! or Dmoz, what directories can bring you quality unique traffic? Well, but I guess the traffic by other directory owners may count if that leads to a sale. What would you do and price a PR3 page?
If the directory looks to have potential I'd pay out maybe $20 for a PR3 at most (assuming it will one day be higher than a pr3) .. If its just an average directory that isn't well maintained maybe $5.
look at the main pages of the directory, if it has many high PR pages, chances are that the new ones will increase PR as well.
I used to think that designs of web sites don't matter. But I learned that some directory owners and other people were rather into the designs, and I guess being original in appearance is good. To be honest, I submit links to directories, expecting to get high PR. That would be my first reason though I do understand other important things. So, here are the main reasons I submit my links to directories - 1. PR 2. Backlink 3. Traffic Now, like some of you said above, the potential of the directory (or the potential of the page to have higher PR) to grow is something we should all think. And that's why I submit to directories that seem something "promising" in the future even the current PR is low. - how determine this though? Then how a directory looks matters, right? But then directory with PR0 can look bad in a way, especially those who check on it quickly!
Here is how to determine PR0 potential directory... look here at live stats. That is on a directory that is currently in the sandbox, not even indexed, and only shown via dp and phpldforums. To top it off, it's not even live yet.
I like the design though. But I usually check PR, and other more practical things first. Like I said, I am not sure if I should expect a good, quality traffic from a directory, even like Dmoz. I don't think people use those directories to find your site. So, being listed at Dmoze for example is just a matter of trying to get points for higher PR. Or do you seriously expect many people would find you? It seems Yahoo! Directory gives more and better traffic, but of course we know we can't afford that much of $ for a link!
I have my Ask Directory listed on several directories the best link is Searchenginecolossus I get around 5 visitors from yahoo, alive, aviva I get 1 daily botw 1 weekly I don’t have it on dmoz but other sites I have on dmoz get 1 visitor every 6 months.
How much you can charge really depends on loot of things not only PR if you give the url I will give you a number. Based only on pr3 I would say $5-$15.
Hey thanks for the stats. That helps I think to determine the quality of traffic. I think if your directory is listed on those major directories, the quality traffic really counts. I need to check on the traffic from SEs I guess, too. In my case, so far I sold about 5 links since Sept 14. without any promotion much after opening paid option. I wish I knew for sure but I think those 5 people are NOT from DP or other forum. So I asume they came through SEs, very possibly from Google. So, say if I have visitors from Google around 5 or 6 daily. How much would you pay for PR3? How about PR4? etc. This is kind of hard to determine in a way because everybody looks differently. But I think there is like a standard for it in terms of the "average" value of PR3. Of course based on PR, traffic, and other factors.
