I have a phenomenal Directory idea - that solves all issues currently located in the thread "Can we together start a big directory like Dmoz? (All directory owners) " Now, besides me saying that, I'm going to ruin this thread because I'm obviously not going to talk about, but it's really that good. My question is, does anyone know who these ideas can be submitted to for partnership? Sold? Does Google, Yahoo, Microsoft regularly buy ideas? Has anyone got any experience in this? I'm not looking for a little guy to partner, I'm more interested in selling the idea. If there is a company willing to look at it, how do you copyright it so they can't rip you off? Thanks, Glenn
Typically, they will be more interested in buying the idea if: 1) You can show the idea working already 2) You have an extensive report detailing every aspect of the idea, and how it will become successful #1 is better than #2 in most cases. Also, there has to be some economic considerations. Would it be easier for them to have their own people do it instead of working with you?
That made me laugh. I have always been a person with far more ideas than I could possibly implement, but as I have gotten older I have gotten better at choosing the best ideas and seeing them through to completiong, but I will always being trying to improve this process.
Yes, to see future with every idea person needs experience. This is what I am working on all the time.
Not to be too harsh, but what is the point of posting this? If you have an idea tell us, if not keep it to yourself but don't post that you have a great idea but you aren't telling what it is....
I hear what you are saying SonicReducer. I would also recommend he start developing the idea and maybe one day he will become the "genius" that started it all.
Obviously you missed the point. I wanted to know if there were any companies that accepted these ideas...maybe even purchased them. Why would I tell you so you or someone else could develop it. Glenn
I thought this was the place someone could gather help from others who are experienced. But instead people take offence because I won't explain my idea. I guess I misunderstood what this site was used for. A Moderator can feel free to close this thread, as it's turning out no different than any other forum on the internet. Glenn
Hey HopsNBarley, I'm not gonna treat you badly . I think the best way to go about this is to start a directory. The problem with going to companies is this. They are so easily stealable. Like if you came to me and explained it to me and I claimed that I would pay it if it was good, I could say, "come on man that idea stinks". Then develop it on my own. So it's risky. If you build it yourself no one can contest it. BTW I'm gonna start a directory soon so if you wanna spill the beans ... Skinny
Thanks for your post. After a few months studying how business and marketing is done on the Internet, I am curious why are there so many directories? For instance, what advantage is it for you to start your own? A lot of them I see appear to be a canned PHP script. So I guess my next question is... If you had a way to gather links that were not "junk" and were supplied by people, and required very little administration. Do you think it would be worth while to pursue it. Or would it be just another directory... Glenn
Well why start your own: revenue if it is a paid directory. I guess the question is what is the way (you don't have to divulge this). If it's automatic then yes I think there would be some interest. But then is it a directory or search engine? If you make a directory 100% paid you drop a lot of the junk, but there is a downside because people who do have good sites won't submit because they have to pay. Skinny
There is so much competition already. It must take some time before the PR on a directory goes up, and until then what's the point paying to submit? Am I correct with this logic?
Probably. I'm still thinking of ideas or ways but got none to make THE directory. But paying to submit ensures that your in a directory that is free of spam. Free directories are filled with them and most aren't even search engine friendly. So paying for a real link that is SE friendly and is in a directory with good standing. i.e. no crap, no BS. Skinny
I have some excellent ideas related to the same topic. If I had the time and money I would probably implement them, but at the moment it is just inside my head like in the case of the guy who started this thread. Unfortunately, these days we are too oriented into profit and very little directed towards evolution.
I'm also trying to change directories. I actually started a thread about what to do about them. Profit is one thing. . . but you have to agree that a paid directory scares off most spammers. We need directories to be fresh. I don't think tons of people go through directories and if they do it's the top ones. Something needs to change. Skinny
I have nothing against one product or the other but as my right to freedom of speech is untouchable I have to say that NOTHING will change as long as there are 1000s of link directories online where you can see at the bottom "powered by phpld". I am going to open a directory soon, yes, but it will be nothing compared to the clones that are already online. Why? Because they are useless. Except payed submissions and adsense they are useless to both the owner and the one subscribing to them. What about humans? What about the real purpose of a catalogue? To be able to SEARCH and FIND easily QUALITY items. Nobody searches directories these days and traffic is minimum from them towards the indexed links. Best regards
