Directory feature wishlist

If you had a choice of customizing your directory with certain features that your current script doesn't provide, what features would you want and why?

The reason I'm asking is that I think its about time we looked at creating the ideal vertical portal script which will compliment a standard directory. If the features are realistic and can be created I'd be happy to get them developed for the phpLynx script.

Please don't destroy this thread by posting anything other than genuine ideas.

I think this is something that should be held specifically at phplynx forums, not here in DP forums.

Had this been a phpLD, or esyndicat, or [insert other script], you would have pitched a sh*tfit and ruined that thread.

First for everything... have to say I agree with an0n.

You can't have it both ways Jamie. Had this been related to any other script you would have been the first to complain.

To put an end to further arguments that this thread may attract, its better to convert/open a new thread asking for general wish mod/list that someone may like to have in his/her directory. :)

Why? This is something I'm offering something for ALL directory owners, both existing and future, so there is no reason why I should restrict this to our forum when many existing and potential directory owners would otherwise perhaps not get the chance to get their ideas put into practice at my expense may I add.

If mod creators such as yourself have ideas then I'd be happy to work with you on developing them and giving you just credit, I've made that clear to you many times. So yes, this post does belong here and I sincerely hope people do give input that could go a way to improving directories because unlike some I could mention, I walk the walk, not talk the talk. And if suggestions are given they WILL get listened to and not take six months either.

You should be encouraging the fact someone is willing to put their money where their mouth is not the other way around.

@SilkySmooth; No I would not have complained, I would have endorsed it, the fact is most other script owners wouldn't dream of offering what I am, probably because they can't afford to or simply don't want to. The fact of the matter is I would have encouraged script development and direct interaction with the target audience.

Well can i request a mod that, allows dirctory owners to at least be cival to each other, where they appreciate each other idea's with out a bung fight, where people help in a positive way, where positive input and general help is offered, where all of the scum QBC crew are frizzlled as soon as they touch a directory, where all people trading in dropped domains are evaporated, and where people can learn to stay on topic rather than take a post to personal level as soon as some thing is posted they do not see eye to eye with ?

? Nope, i think i will see sparks fly out of my backside before that happens.

It's getting hard to talk about any specific directory script here at DP. No matter which script it is, tongue lashings are soon to follow. It never used to be this way, and I hope that the time comes when everyones personal motives will take a back seat to the common good of end users.

    @ Jamie,

As one that has received "advice" from you, or as I refer to as tongue lashings, I must say I agree with Silky and An0n. You state in your original post: "If the features are realistic and can be created I'd be happy to get them developed for the phpLynx script." This would be something better taken up at your forum with your script users. I probably would not feel this way if it were not for the fact I can't mention phpLD here anymore without starting a soap opera...

Your all entitled to your opinions and I respect that, but it is not going to change the fact that I'm more than prepared to work WITH the directory owner to try and provide what THEY want and not what the mod creators TELL THEM they want.

I don't like this script bashing as much as the next person awhich was the reason I started this post off by stating...

eSyndiCat - has from day one, a forum dedicated for users to suggest new features they would like to see added.

I have been using phplynx since its release and have a few ideas for additions to the script.

I will PM them to you Jamie as I think they are unique and may give the script a greater edge then your script already has.

    Thanks

Because your promoting a rival script in a thread that is phpLynx specific is the reason why your hi-jacking, so keep out unless you have something to say relevant to phpLynx and the original post I made.

If you don't have any decent contribution kindly wander off back to your master there's a good little dog.

OK, Her is my EXACT POINT:

And because of this mentality, this is why this threads belongs on YOUR fourms, and NOT here.

    You just claimed to
Well, dog222 IS a 'Directory owner'.

Nobody gives a rats ass for which script. The FACT remains that he IS a directory owner.

So STOP claiming of a hi-jacked thread.

I call it how I see it and it just got called. I don't play nobody's sides and I don't take anyone's sh*t either; especially threats, so think twice before sending me anything related and/or near to what would be considered a threat via PM.

Now JamieG, and in your own words:

"Stop trying to shove a script down everyone's throat with your constant badgering, chasing, postings and shrewd remarks"

Let's get this straight an0n, I never sent you any threat via p.m, if you want me to post what I sent to you to back that up I will. As for dog being a directory owner, from the post he wrote promoting another script in a thread that specifically asked politely not to, he WAS HI-JACKING.

I'll take it from your comments your not interested and wish you a good life.

No, REALLY get this straight.... I never said you threatened, I told you to NOT BOTHER in trying to do so. Many others tell me about your PMs and threats, to which I tell them not to even worry about it.

Now, as far as posting any PMs, sure, go ahead. I've absolutely no problems with voicing anything in a PM that I wouldn't on the open forums.

He wasn't hi-jacking anything. It was a simple expression that esydicat also helps to promote product enhancement and development.

This thread was suppose to be about a 'wish list', NOT a lynx wish list,
because for a lynx wishlist, you do that ON the lynx forums where it SHOULD BE and SHOULD STAY.

I have interests in a lot of things, but time says otherwise.
As far as life goes, I am higher than high on and in it, but thanks for the extra wishes.

    Ok boys and girls.

Jamie's thread wasn't unreasonable - it's ok to go beyond your own community trawling for ideas - after all, the people on his own forum are used to seeing things one way and he wanted broader ideas.

What's not ok is to go trashing the thread and I've long since stopped reading the infighting in the Directory forum so I don't know who is most likely to complain about the other, etc, etc. What I do know is that he's welcome to ask. You're welcome to ignore it and let the thread sink into oblivion. Or watch it and grab the best ideas. Whatever.
