Man, I haven't seen numbers so far off in a long time. Multiply those by .1 and it might be closer. It made for an entertaining thread though
The main problem of that calculation is that saturation has almost nothing to do with the number of sites listed, it's just the number of indexed pages. In addition to that even if they had so many listings most of them would be free, either free submissions by users or manual additions by the editors. If I remember correctly Mister Charlie has said that almost 80-90% of the listings at BOTW are added by the editors.
But BOTW as to be making a loot of money how they pay all the staff there and freelancers? They probably also have other streams of revenue besides listings.
Even 10% of their daily additions are A LOT, for example August 31 Additions, plus they own a blog network and from what I have seen they are starting the verticals with the first being the software one, I expect that many more will follow. Plus they take volunteers editors as well if I remember correctly (a quite recent blog post).
Just because they can make a directory more useful to visitors, but the people running these sites are less likely to be doing directory submissions.
Those income figures are the best laugh I have had in years. Skaffe and WoW Directory are productive directories but nothing remotely like the earnings displayed.
The figure is based on fee + search engine concentration and the two are in no way related. I’m not sure how anybody would come up with that figure.
What baseball player?? I don't know of any baseball player making hundreds of millions annually. Those are Bill Gates type numbers...
Maybe Mister Charlie can do a reality check and give us some insight on BOTW numbers, how many people work there full and part-time, how many submissions they get daily, what sources of revenue they have beside paid listings etc. Cheers
As a privately held company, we don't disclose our numbers. Sorry, but you'll have to guess amongst yourselves.
