Ok, so you are new to directories. This explains alot! So let those of us that bashed you a little in this thread try to help you out a bit.

First off, directories ARE alot of work especially if you accept free submissions as well as paid. With good promotion you would likely have 100-200 submissions a day to review. That is ALOT of work, even if you were experienced at it and knew how to spot spam and other crap sites. Think about it. If you only had to spend three minutes reviewing each site, that's 600 minutes for 200 sites (TEN HOURS!!!). All this assumes you will accept some free sites, at least initially.

Setup can be time consuming in the beginning because you will have to make modifications to the PHPLD template to fit your design and structure. Also, you have to setup categories which can take half a day to setup a couple hundred categories initially (you DON'T want to start out with too few categories...more work later on!).

Ultimately someone has to put in alot of time and effort to make a directory work. No one will run and promote your site for you (suceessfully anyway) unless you are paying them.

What you should do is pose this offer, EXCEPT offer them half of the sale of the site.

You invest the domain, hosting, and promotion, and he invests his skill and time.

The problem with any offer like this is the directory will be brand new. Why would someone need you to start a brand new directory? The answer is they don't.

As far as making offers for help later on, there has to be a "real" incentive for someone to devote time to your project, time that they could better spend on their own projects. For example, if you were a SEO or Internet Marketing guru and agreed to deliver all the traffic to this new venture then it may be worth it for someone to setup your directory, operate it, review the submissions, etc. Or if you had an already well-established directory with a steady source of income, then it would also be worth it.

But unless you have something special to bring to the table, there is no reason for anyone to take you up on any kind of partnership. I would suggest that you start out alone and get the feel for what it takes to run a directory. Even if you decide to take on help later, it would be best to know how to do everything yourself anyway. Yes, there will some bumps and bruises along the way, but DP has the BEST directories forums on the web with people that will offer advice and help to you along the way.

Why not just sell the domain name away to someone who has the potential to develop it. Sometimes, you need to take account of what you can do and sell off what you cannot chew for the better interest of the site. You need to let go at times. I've done that for several sites I know has great potential and sold them off because I cannot develop it with my schedule or my abilities. Sometimes you really need to just let go.

This way, it gives the person more potential and leeway to develop the site to the full potential. 6 months may be too short a period to grow anything and the initial stage is always very costly because of the promotion and development cost. I only expect to reap the potential from my site after 6 to 8 months, hopefully.

    Do consider that.

Incidentally, we do not know what the domain name is. Might help if you mention it.
