I have a few directories listed at DC and they get between 50-100 visits a day from there, which is pretty good for a free listing. I have never advertised on there though so not sure on the value of that, I cant imagine it can get much better for a directory owner though than to advertise there, it must be the most popular directory related site available. Oh and did somebody mention shameless promotion? You can get advertising on Directory Rate too
I am advertising my directory on the paid directory list page on DirectoryCritic. I do not know if it is due to my simple banner but there was only 2 regular listing submissions that came from DirectoryCritic in the last 23 days. Traffic is not good, maybe one or two visitors each day. I believe DirectoryCritic is only good for free directories' promotion on free directory list page.
We get paid submissions every month from DC. We have been with The Critic since very early and have 4 of the Top 30 directories under his new rating system.
even though you might not be getting direct his from DC people are remembering your site name. They might be going directly to it or just coming in from your sig link here on DP . When i goto to DC most of the names i see in the banners stick in my head. Damien the webmaster was very smart for making his site use such bright colors. The banner ads really stick out in orange and blue. That is my opinion and how i get those directories to stick in my head .
LOL it's in the footer.tpl anyways, the directory is listed on the DC's free directory list! may be it was recently added, so it's getting more traffic, will have to wait and see if the traffic holds! on the paid directory list, the traffic is not much may be because am too down the list at the moment, and i have got no idea how much traffic home page advertising can give you! but am happy with the traffic that's coming to my free directory!
Excellent traffic to be receiving for fee. Well done there. I would probably think the best advertising spot on DC would be to not go sitewide with a left or right column banner but one on the homepage in a more visible position near the top!
Would you kindly add your reasons for this. It is worth knowing why you may feel this way and bring this into an open and civilised discussion. Thanks
Vid, uttoran meant he submitted his freee directory into this list, not a paid advert. I had a 125x125 ad on DC for 3 months. At first it was 5-10 a day, then dropped to 0-3 a day.
I have 1 of the 3 top banner spots on DirectoryCritic for CommissionDirectory Since October 16 I have received: 108 unique visitors from that banner which is 6 per day, and at $3 per day for the banner that is 50 cents per visitor. This is much cheaper than spending the $90 on other PPC advertising systems. I have spent the same amount on other monthly ads for my other sites and have nothing to show for it. CommissionDirectory is new and has PR0, and unfortunately many people are not willing to spend $2 for a submission at a PR0 site, so my marketing efforts are geared towards increasing the targeted website traffic. In the past 18 days, I have received almost 900 unique visitors from my other advertising efforts. I agree that most people go to DirectoryCritic for the free directory list, but if you have a site with PR then your conversion rates will probably be higher. And as someone stated before, people remember the names on the banners. I don't remember a single name from the Free Directory List, but I could name at least 10 of the banners easily. DirectoryCritic has an Alexa rank of about 14000. I don't know of any other sites with that good of alexa rank whose traffic is composed of directory owners and submitters. DC may only have 2000 uniques per month (from a previous members post), but you also have to take into account their huge amount of returning traffic. Overall, I am happy with the traffic that DirectoryCritic is providing. All I can say is the obvious, give it a try for one month. If you don't like it then cancel.
I've got a couple of directories on the free lists. Directory Critic sent me 44 referrals all year. This is probably because those directories are tucked away in obscure places like the niche lists. This makes their premium listing option with deeplinks seem like very bad value for money if you're not in a general directory category.
Hello... Well damien is a great guy to deal with and ive had many hits on the links but feel that banners are money better spent at his site. Im hoping that he can offer flash or whatever soon so that i can can my banners going at his site. thx malcolm
