perhaps only members with 20+ posts can vote. stops people registering just to vote as part of a bribe....
or perhaps install pligg someplace.... where people can register, and vote at the same time! ... perhaps using the same db as the forum, if ur hosting contests every month.... this should be a good direction M.
I think you should have judges instead of popular vote. First you should have candidates then review them.
over on Directory-Owners we have run several of these DOTM (directory of the month) contest and it has previously worked based on submission, general membership nominations, then selection and winner chosen of the top nominees by the forum staff. I have recently recoded and revamped this DOTM process to fully automate it. It will begin with the August contest once the current "Special" PhpLynx contest is over. This is what I have done and will go forward with: DOTM competition runs on a 30 Day rotational schedule. (Some variances. These will be noted in the forum when different) To nominate a site: Site must be listed in the Directory on Directory-Owners.com To list a site in the directory a member must have at least (5+) posts Click on the Site Name Click on DOTM Nomination. This makes your selection for that Months contest. You can only select one site per month. You can change your selction by clicking on the same site DOTM Nomination a second time then choosing the other site you want to nominate. Presently a single Directory/Site can only win (1) DOTM After (2) nominations are made, a graphical Poll will be displayed on the Home page and within the Directory Pages. Directory/Site owners can NOT nominate their own site. DOTM votes can only be done by forum members and only (1) vote per monthly contest On the 1st day of the month the system totals votes, posts the Winner and restarts the new months contest. tom
I agree. If there is voting, it should be to vote for the panel who will judge the winners. Then the panel should be given a list of criteria (e.g. design, links quality, validation tools results, etc.) and give points on an agreed scale.
if there is one person who can prove that i bribed somebody to vote for me ... or have any valid evidence ... please let me know because Rob has some intentions to throw rocks at me whenever he can see. if you dont like idk.in it is your choice... you like dirjournal it is your choice.. i personally like it also and i know the owner also ... and how wonderful of a work Zeb did on it, but by saying i bribe people to vote for me is just an insult.
Nice comp, wisked prize, what's the one for phpld gonna be? Prize: $200 Cash from PhpLynx (1) Full Paid version of phpLynx will be awarded to the winner ($120 value - Linkback free version) from..More details
ok i'm back... and pretty fricken dead tired! :evil grin: Anywho... with regards to this, I used to follow directories quite extensively, and I used to tell david who the conjobs were, and how hey spammed for their PR, who was black hatting, who did [insert bad things]...basically, I knew the dirt on everyone and anyone(pretty sad to say the least)... but these days, I just note and move on, and don't get into things like I used to. OK, so, before I die over here... if a directory is also based on 'promotion' being the criteria, I think collection backlinks, possibly 1 or 2 PR updates etc should also be part of the equation. I would actually nominate jhnrang to do the backlink checking(if there were a panel) and it were a part of the equation. He loves that stuff.
yes yes i wanna be in tht group of judges also .. for designin category .. .me and jude will make a perfect group
well i think it should go like this 3 judges panel for the following categories Design Content Backlinks / SE Ranking (SE Ranking) and all average score gets the directory their chance... and i think we should allow votes ... just for the heck of it ... u kno sort of like electoral college .... votes are allowed ... but final decisions are by the judges... what do u think ?
insulted? hey little man, you have a lot to learn. your own clients were the ones who told me. do you think I would compromise the trust i have with my peers to satisfied someone like you? I wouldn't say it if it weren't true, and everybody knows I call a spade a spade, and you've been spaded. here is a hint for you smub... after one of them voted for you, and them called upon to return the favor, you told that person you don't owe them anything and to basically go fk' themselves. think i'm joking now? hahaha i know more than you think. you didn't even know what w3c validation was until i had to tell you. give us all a break.
I would check validation e.g. html, section 508, etc. This would be very positive to encourage directory owners (including myself ) to make their sites more user-friendly.
i love how you make up stuff rob ... are you talking about the client who you told that i showed you his design already which i didn't even create just so he take the contract away from me ??? lol i dont know anything about w3 validation and it is dump which have w3 valid symbols and not valid ouch !!! i maybe the little man ... but never underestimate the skills just because of the age. I just thought everyone should see what rob thought me and didn't learn himself http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.directorydump.com/ W3 Valid images placed on Dump
i think the topic of the hour is how to make a good n clean contest... lets leave the bitchslapping for some other thread! lets have a good and clean contest, ... where the judges do NOT submit their own site.... and in turn i win the contest!!! M.
Hmmm interesting thread... I agree that dirjournal should have won the last vote, but then again I did vote for it. Anyway..... my suggestion for solving the voting problems. - A panel of judges should be created say around 50 the criteria for which David can figure out. People who have made the most posts the previous month, people who have contributed the most, people who have won the contest previously... just a couple of random ideas. - When it is time for the judges to vote, David should RANDOMLY select 10 of those judges to cast their votes, they then have x amount of time to cast their votes. This way unless someone bribes all 50, it would be very difficult to rig. - The judges vote in private and the results are published only after the winner is announced. - Judges should not be allowed to enter the contests. - It would also be great if the Judges agreed to remain anonymous so that they could not be accused of accepting a bribe. Just an idea.
Make stuff up i dont do. Tell that client I've seen his new design, sure I did. You showed it to me, didn't you? Him taking away the contract? Why would he do that? Shall I remove the rss feeds to prove your idiocy? So you can watch it validate clear across the board on every page? What would you know about that? nothing! absolutely nothing. And I've even said it myself. you have no skills. what are you talking about? you think what you call 'design' is design? ha! you're a joke, and so are your designs. To be nice is one thing, but when you want full all out honesty, expect the truth to hurt. I guess it's one of the reasons after you try to MOD someones directory, they come to me, and I fix it for them for FREE... because I feel sorry for them. I am not the only one who has had to fix your poor coding either. @silky That is a pretty decent idea. So basically there would be a whole bunch of people willing, but only 10 randomly pulled, afterwhich they have x amount of time to consider and vote. yea, not a bad idea.
