Personal opinion, didn't mean to offend. Just seemed to be the same as so many other phpLD directories I've submitted to.
I have learned that my directory in all reality sucks (just kidding). This is a really good test for directories. And I must admit that even though I am an seo by trade I am learning alot from some of the newbies in this contest, some of the sites at the top are doing a really good job with their ranking and for me it shows that most of the owners are for real about wanting to have a quality directory for the public to submit to. In the end I would say that everyone that had the heart to enter this contest is a winner in my book.
Which way do you think will be best to find directories to submit to ... using link domain? And then adding keywords to find niche ones? Coming up with some ideas for tools now, afterall there is no other domain that has been listed by as many web directories. Might as well do something more with it.
Directory Contest races past the 300,000 Marker Results 1 - 10 of about 319,000 for directorycontest.com http://www.google.com/search?client...=en&q=directorycontest.com&btnG=Google+Search That's not all Trincas hits the front position, has Trincas hit the front too early
Quite a few new entries are hitting the first few pages of the result, hope to see a nice final race there.
For those of you that want to check rankings for the directory contest on more than one data center you use either site below to see how much of a difference there is. http://www.webrankinfo.com/english/tools/google-data-centers.php
The top ones seem the same. Now Google is finally showing link:www.directorycontest.com results and it´s nice to see some of the very old, well established directories within those results. Too bad Google is so slow updating this. Anyways, dekarris had an interview with me here http://www.directoriesblog.info/2007/01/13/interview-with-mike-dammann-about-the-directory-contest/ You guys should check it out, and I hope I have answered some questions which some of you might have had.
Directory Contest is on a roll this week as it hits the 340K Marker Results 1 - 10 of about 340,000 for directorycontest.com http://www.google.com/search?client...=en&q=directorycontest.com&btnG=Google+Search Sizzle
Shows 351 k on my end, come on ppl, the contest is heading for the final round. Let´s get it up to a Million.
Not sure if it will get up to a mil, but 351k is alot. Now is the time to get more aggressive if anyone plans to do so. Hope some of the entries do not think that they can stop now, it should be fun down the stretch.
Folks don't worry about the Million Marker by the end of this year in time for the next contest the 1,500,000 will be the target
True, once our tools come out and people will search for directories to submit to, it will be a whole new ballgame. This is only the contest, the goal is to build the best and biggest directory of directories naturally.
Never know. Of course, first things first. This is going to be ending on Feb 6th which is when I will cut and paste the results for the first 3 pages onto a thread on my forum. From there the process of elimination will begin, first all non directories will be taken off and then everyone is going to have a chance to comment on whatever rules they believe some directories are breaking. Not sure exactly when the contest winners will be announced.
I'm not liking the sound of that. Sounds like you will holding some kind of vote now, and that would not be the right thing to do. I think it is a no brainer, which ever directory is in 1st place should be the winner bottom line. The only rule that could be broken is if someone is putting a sitewide listing in there own site which points to the entry page. Even if one puts directorycontest.com in there description and keywords that will not make much of difference from a google stand point. Maybe with msn or other search engines it would matter, but not to google. Because to be honest the only thing that counts in google is backlinks, however the kind of backlinks you get will play a major role in where you rank regardless of how many backlinks you have.
