I think there were no rules before.
Its simply when the contest started. I started looking at the rules.

and what about the backlinks from other sites issue?
On the other thread page 2,3,4 you say you cannot get any backlinks and then say get any number of backlinks and just try to win and lets make this contest a big one!

100% wrong. The rules have always been the same. It's just that about a week ago I have announced that those breaking the rules will be disqualified if they don't stop doing so. While many have complied, others are still justifying what they are doing. So my decision is made. It's only 3 that are out for good.

There are many more on page 3-18,000 breaking the rules as well, and trust me, they won't be able to win the contest either.

But it looks like 95% of the participants are complying. So than you everyone for your support.

I am out of here, having learned a lesson or two about who my friends are and who think that they can play me for a dumbass.

Anyways, will be back in a couple of hours.

If you have great sources to get backlinks, use them. But on site seo is not allowed. Is this clear now?

 

He did make rules prior to the contest. The problem is that people want to try and twist them around.

The main rule that was set PRIOR to the contest was that directories had to list the contest as a normal or featured listing. He also said that it was supposed to show which directories benefited NORMAL listings the most.

that should have been all the rules needed. That alone should tell anyone with a little common sense that doing things that they do not normally do is not allowed.

 

My common sense says please provide me link to a page where the rules are clearly stated. Ok, Dont provide me with any list of rules. But please provide other to the rules where they are clearly stated.

Its a human tendency to pay attention on what is written with full force.
By full force I mean, atleast you should have added something like
RULES:
1. #1 rule
2. #2 rule
and so on.

A contest worth 2100$ and having no rules.
That doesnt makes any sense to me.
And even me having no interest now into the contest. Simply want to say:

Why are we just heading over the discussion, why is the need for you to even talk about justification.
I feel this page 6 of this thread would had been better with the interest of participent notifing people about there participence instead of looking at this discussion. And I truly feel that this contest should be self worthy.

If you are running a contest the rules have to be equal for all ... thats my only point !!

And if people are so particular about the rules they should alteast care to write them up at one place before the starting of the contest ...

No, as mike has stated several times. Backlinking is ok.

 

I have been watching the contest from day one when it first started. I can honestly say that there are only 2 directories in this contest that have kept it clean for themselves. And that is

www.ewebpages.org (nice backlinks, I coming for you)
http://ask-dir.com (congrats on passing me up)

These 2 directories have never had a sitewide listing that I know of on there site, just good anchor text backlinks from other sites. So I agree with an0n that ewebpages is most likely to win the contest unless ask or someone else can nail it down.

 

Well, there are quite a lot more that are doing well and abiding the rules.

My directory, although not in the contest, is on page 2 and I have NEVER used any backlinking, even though it was allowed.

 

but only ONE of those directories is a 'clean' directory.

Your both posts contradict each other..... he has backlinked to the contest entry page on his directory using the anchor text "directorycontest.com" ... which you said was not allowed earlier and this is what i see in this post
