If the directory is banned by the google, I don't think the sites listed in the directory will be banned but the site which is banned will not appear anywhere in the google serps and it will not be benefited by google SE.

I think you got the wrong impression from the question Blogmaster...

I am not sure which question is being addressed here.

The question I think that is being asked is :

    1. If I submit my site to a directory that is banned by google, will it harm my site ranking?

The answer: No, your website should not suffer any google penalties from being listed in that directory because google will not crawl that site and therefore not be able to put any penalty on your website.

ahh gotcha. I have seen other reports and do believe if a huge percentage of backlinks to your site comes from crap directories, it actually can hurt you.

Yes ... if a large percentage of links come from those domains that have been banned by google, however, my advice would be to check the site before listing your domain on it whether or not it appears in google.

If a site has 100 inbound links and 90 come from banned sites, then yes, it will be flagged as spam.

If a site has 100 inbound links and only 2-3 come from banned sites, then it will be fine in theory.

My original answer was based on google banning a site and then not crawling it unless a resubmission request was made ... perhaps google do crawl the banned sites and monitor new links... in that instance, I would just advise people to check that a site is indexed in google before submitting a link to it.

cool I can agree on that. and if you have doubts about a directory ... don't bother submitting to it!
