Directory as subdomain?

    Hello everybody!

I was thinking to build some services(like a directory, a proxy, a wiki etc) under one domain name. All of the services would be subdomains.
So, if do you think my idea is good?
I actually am concerne about the directory mostly, since it would be in format "directory.mydomainname.com" and don't know if website owners would spend their time submitting their websites in a directory like this.
    What do you think?
My domain name doesn't have any Google PR yet, but i got aroun #650k alexa pr and get some vsitors daily.

As a website owner yourselves, would you submit your website in a directory like this?
I was thinking of an "open-directory" project, which means i won't ask for reciprocals in order to submit your websites.
What do you think about that idea?

    Thanks beforehand for your time!

    Best Regards,
    Thanoz

    It depends on your site.
If your site is quality, we will do submit our sites.

If you are going to start a paid directory then do n't start it on a sub domain

For a free directory it's okay

I received really positive replied and to be honest i didn't expect it.
It's going to be an 100% free directory and reciprocals won't be necessary.
I've created it, customizing my subdomain now, and will be publishing the link soon. I've tried to keep it as simple as possible, so not any fancy graphics or anything :D

Be back soon with the link!(gonna post it on the correct category;P)

Stop worrying about PR and alexa. Worry more about the on-site issues like editorial standards - quality of listings, good range of unique categories etc.

right now plenty of free web directories, is it worth to submit to a subdomain directory?
it is the question you should consider before starting.

    subdomain is not a problem.
You should however ask yourself why you need the directory. what value will it add to your site?

Here is another example of a directory on a subdomain and it is not free. http://www.blazemp.com/dir/

Just build a quality resource and people will use it.
