Directories with no PR

Discussion in 'Directories' started by stickysnail, Jul 5, 2007.

    I have been going through directories the past hour trying to find 2 things.

    Where the right category is to submit to?

    And why these directories have a Great PR on the homepage but they are charging crazy amounts of money for a link with 0 PR on internal pages?

    What the heck!!!!!!!!!

    This is because the sub-categories will eventually gain some PR down the road.
    Also, the script that they use does not allow the directory to charge different prices for different categories.

    It might be possible that owner using the dropped domain with PR or sub-categories will eventually gain some PR.

    The directory may have great homepage PR and no inner PR because its an old domain. Just look at the domain name. does it have a good directory phrase in it? like the word directory or links? or is it something random. if so its a dropped domain....

    Indeed, there have been quite a number of people with good PR directories with no inner pages, people who also try selling index page links hoping to make some quick money. Come the PR update though their PR will suddenly drop due to the lack of backlinks and/or the sudden change in content! Take a look at the wayback machine which will give you an indication of whether they have suddenly changed content...

    Obviously you do need to take into consideration that PR usually gets assigned to the index page first, inner PR tends to follow in the next PR update (hence the process can take about 6 months).

    If the home page has a high PR, some of this PR should flow to the other pages on the site.

    It's suspicious to me when the category pages are PR0, but the owner is still trying to charge a high listing fee.

    The best way to find the right category to submit to is to do a search for your keywords. That should bring up a number of related websites, and hopefully each listing should have details of which category it is under. The search might also list suitable related categories.

    If you can't find what you want from the search, then neither will any potential visitors and the chances are, the directory is not being cared for and it isn't good enough to bother submitting to.

    Always make sure you check PR on the exact page your link will be on ... ignore the advertised PR of a directory, check pages! (unless you're speculating, hoping that a page will gain PR over time).

    Ultimately though PR isn't everything (although in the directory game it usually is). What you need to remember is that PR changes all the time and that the PR in the toolbar (or where ever) is simply a snap shot at one point in time over the usual 3 month period. Chances are if its an established directory with good inner PR pages, yet you come across one that hasnt got a PR, this doesnt mean its not worth having yourself listed on that page - its probably also very well indexed as well!

    If none of the categories have PR ---- Only one answer --

    That directory is on DROPPED domain :mad:
    QBC.

    If some other categories have PR and some don't have -- no worries. Those categories have been added recently.:cool: I have even mentioned New categories on my Web Directory.

    Its easy.

    <?

    if ($domain_name=="logical_name") {

    $web_directory = "geniune";

    }

    else {

    $web_directory = "Fake";

    $QBC++;

    }

    if ($QBC>0) {

    die("The directory is run by a member of the quick buck crew. The domain name has nothing to do with the directory, the domain age is less than 3 months old, but still retains page rank from before it expired. Do not submit here, they will steal you money, sell the site, it will turn PR0 next update and the new owner will delete it");

    }

    else {

    echo "The directory is genuine. Submitting will help your site by gaining backlinks and through small tergetted traffic each month.<img src="images/QBC_free_zone.gif>";

    }

    ?>

    Usually it is this, but it is not the only answer. Plus, IMHO, to say that a directory that doesn't have PR on the inner pages is always a dropped domain and is QBC is very misleading, as I don't think that it is always true.

    One example is that the category pages could have been in the supplementals when the PR snapshot was taken. I have seen many directories have a large amount of pages go in and out of the supps on a daily basis, and it just depends on where they are when the snapshot is taken.
