I am a litte nervous about submitting to directories. I don't know it seems like a guerialla tactic. So many directiories are made for no purpose other than just to get visits or charge for PR or something.

So which directories are legit honet to goodness directories.

Thank you. I have several top tier clients. Small consulting groups. Big money. That may fit perfect.

I also have a directory that I just started but plan to market it heavily. I am currently working to design a unique template for the directory and add more features to it. This directory is here to stay and will not disappear overnight.
Right now, it does not cost much to get listed in my directory. Take advantage of this deal before prices go up.

I am just confused about directories. I don't even know how many years I have been on the internet, a bunch, and I have been consulting for open source applications forever.

I have never once used a directory. Not even Yahoos. I never go to a directory and look around and say oh that looks neat. Because basically the best sites will be near the top of Google anyway.

So I guess I am trying to understand the need of them if there one except increasing backlinks.

Personally before submitting to any directory I go and run this query in google "site:www.domain.com" to find out how many pages are indexed in google and more importantly is the category I am going to submit is indexed or not. If category is not indexed I do not bother submitting my site to that particular directory. Just my 2 cents.

    Thanks.
