Directories vs forum links vs backlinks

I have been out of touch with new web developments for sometime now, which is a shame as I now need to market a new website. When I was using web marketing, viral marketing and blog links were all the rage. Things seem to have changed alot.

Can anyone give me a quick update on current climate for new website exposure and pr growth?

 

The trend is more towards building backlinks nowadays. Article marketing has picked up a lot of pace among people now along with forum posting. Its all about building backlinks now a days. Here's a small resource for backlinks - building backlinks.

 

It has always been about backlinks, the question is more how to get those back links. Using an even approach and doing all of the above works well. I get back links from forums, blogs and article writing. I been experimenting with real PR release from the big boys such as PR Newswire and it works wanders but it is expensive so you have to have a real news worthy PR release to use them.

 

I think directories is better then forum links.

Forum links work as direct traffic as well as backlinks. Hit two birds with one stone there.

Backlinks is extremely important, prob the most out all all of these. Forum would be your passive.
Directories are great to submit to for some of your articles/posts. That will also give you backlinks and direct clicks.

So as you can see, the forums and directories all relate to getting you backlinks. So I guess backlinks are important?

 

how about social sites, fb and youtube links? do they still hold alot of weight

Diversity Quality And Quantity this is my way of doing it ...

 

They are actually more and more important nowadays. Just take a look at all the Twitter links on the top positions for some popular keywords.

In general, I'd say submit your site to some 50 high-quality directories and you are starting off well.

 

For me I'd say do them all. Diversity is the key.

 

I don't focus on forum links for backlinks. I use forum to get traffic to my site.

 

Do them all, as said by many diversity is the key. I'm not much a fan of directory submission though, most of the submissions go unnoticed.

 

Just do all the techniques of off page optimization you know since the aim is to get relevant backlinks.

 

I am building links in all of those properties...mixture is always the best.

I have dropped a few links in forums and blogs in past few days and been very active on yahoo answers. As a result my site swiftcolour.com now appears top listed in google for "swiftcolour" infact this thread is in the top 10 for "swiftcolour"

Few more weeks and i should be able to rank for some keywords.
