Directories Using Email Lists?.....Ugh

I did a test. i created a fresh new gmail account, then i signed up to 50 directores....im now getting over 200 spam messages a day, and this as only been created 3 days ago...the funny thing is, my spam sort of resembles a link submission...

Please dont sell your directory email list or use it for other purposes UNLESS strictly saying so. This is kind of annoying because since ive been signing up with my real email to submitting my sites...my spam has more than gotten in my account more than 100 fold. of course my spam folder is catching it...but still.

I definitely know most people are not using it for other reasons and i respect that,..but there are some out there abusing the collection of data from their user base.

Again, please do not abuse the collection of user data. if you will be using it for other reasons please say so in a clear manner.

    Thank You,
    -Tim

I don't get much spam in my inbox even though i've submitted to over 50,000+ directories over the years so i don't have that problem however i did get a few so instead of using my regular address, i used a throwaway email address (like you), but yea directory owners should not spam you out or even sell the email address.

The only emails i think are needed are submission received, submission rejected, submission accepted or problem with your submission...

Are you sure this isn't a case of people simply spamming gmail accounts en masse?

I do get a lot of those more than you do. That is the reason I bought spam arrest. www.spamarrest.com You can't control them. They will sell it no matter what.

Welcome to the world of internet. :D

i understand, and im not saying all directory owners are, i know 99.99999% of them arnt, we all stick together ;)

but it takes that 1 or 2 people who mess things up for the bunch sometimes and it stinks... :/

You might have had "one bad apple"
My email account is a few years old, and I still manage pretty good using spam filters.

Exactly, a good way to find out who it is, is to have a catchall domain email. Like for example have forward to your email and use a different whatevername whenever you submit to a directory. Use the name of the directory you're submitting to each time.

I still get spammed regularly from a few directories I 've submitted to promoting their crap even though I've tried (unsuccessfully) to unsubscribe on a number of occasions, even replying directly. Go figure...

I use a throwaway account with each of my domains that uses the domain being submitted - not gmail. They are all getting spam for lotions & potions, stock tips, and other non-directory stuff; but based upon timing, it increased significantly after the 2 days I spent submitting one of my sites to only directories from the DP announcement forum. My SPAM filters have gotten this down to a manageable 3-5 per day despite my best efforts to kill them all. While there are many here who are professionals there are quite a few trolls as well.

The idea of using a different throwaway for each submission would be an interesting experiment. If anyone does try this, please out the scum when you find them.

I've seen several directories promoting here at DP, placing emails at detail-pages for sites approved. So spammers can get emails there.

I use yahoo and i have over 3000 bulk Spam messages from
anything you can think off daily.
Spam is everywhere and if its not trying to attack my directories
its trying for my e-mail box and getting worse daily and agree that spamming me with more is bull, especially coming from another directory owner.

I am considering using a spam filter where anyone requesting to send me mail must be on a list of approved. :(

    thx

This mostly likely explains many of the spams that people receive after directory submission.

We use 'throwaway' email addresses, but hey we all make mistakes and one time by error we used on of our trading email accounts and now over a year on we are still getting spam email in the box.

When you switch emails, you will know which one gets spammed, and you can then forward them all to your worst enemies.
