I think we just need to wait and watch..... What I believe is google can not penalized directories like Aviva, Directory Dump, Alive, eWebpages etc...... we just need to give some time and everything will be back.

I think most people understand the reasons its all been happening and one would hope that we have learnt something in the process.

That is not totally true, I bought a bid directory yesterday to make my grand total of 5. I am definitely not going to quit the directory world just yet.

    Aviva
    Alive
    Big Web Links
    ewebpages
    Directory Dump
    Elegant Directory

hey i thought in the begining that this was a list of the most promoted directories!
    And it is actually.
    so edit your post man.
you have no idea what is going on.
in my opinion G is working an algo for sites that get too much link building in a short while.i see it happen on my site(smaller market, more easy to watch) and after a mont of not in G index for my main keyword i was on pages 1-3 mostly on 1 and 2 so in a few weeks you will see that this is a sign of well promoted!
    i bet on this!

    Yep some good points there

LOL, I got a red rep saying "reinclusion request" - ummm they are not banned, it was an authorative member aswell

To The Giver -I suggest you update your knowledge on reinlcusion request, although the name suggests to re-inlcude your website in googles index, it is also used to remove penalties your website has obtain.

Some people do not really understand what they are saying. Its true that there are sites that are not deserved to be in that list according to our assumptions of a very well promoted factor. The deceptive and manipulative tendency had brought some attentions. In my opinion I hope Google could review them one by one manually and make a model out of it so the people who shouts injustice and the dumbs that follow the wrong path could awaken to reality that having an online business is not all about gaming Google.

It would be nice to see "those that know" coming out to face their critics, to say that they made a mess of it and that there are good reasons to change but Im afraid hell will freeze over first.

Bet its going to be "who me?" "havent I always charged a review fee?"

To top things off. If Google permits these sites to comeback without an individual review it will add more mess to this industry than ever before. There are always DUMB or IGNORANT that will banner that GOOGLE had approved their sites that are meaningless which only are reserved for plain deception of everything. You will see some rejoicing and to an extent can BULLY again since they came back from the DEAD just to the old ways of manipulation. If Google doesn't act on this there will be more rampant system cheating.

Then that will be a start of directory doomsday.

    Those are top class directories.
Nobody can ban them and nothing will happen to directories..

Thats just Google SERP changes. Wait and watch to see them top again.

Interesting theory about the "algo change." I typed 50 company names in Google and Google found their website every time.

So what exact algo change occurred again that makes certain websites not rank for their name?

hahaha popo, you are kill'in me here....first it was the end of the directory world because these 'big' directories were out of the top SERPs now it is the "start of directory doomsday" if they come back to the top of the SERPs. As the saying goes, 'you can't suck and blow at the same time" but it looks like you are trying to.

I see this issue more like censorship, if gooogle starts to penalize sites based on the what they have 'appeared' to do then where does it stop and where do they draw the line? I think it is always best to have too few controls then too many.

You people are serious retards, the ones who post against these directories, especially the thread starter, someone like chris, jeff, or rob have helped to release literally hundreds of free templates that you have or currently use, and have helped here so many times , and you still do this, you people are pathetic and deserve to burn in hell.

If i would of heard this from a neutral guy who is not involved in this directory stuff i wouldn't say anything but you are clearly subjective. But here's a tip don't worry there are still good ways of getting money online, you will just have to work a bit harder .

There is no known penalty so you can't ask for reinclusion based on 'myth'.

    Quite condesending from a newbie....
