Although I tried my best and created two years ago a web directory (see my sig) I don't know if a standard web directory can deliver traffic, while almost all directories are struggling to get traffic.

What I had in mind was to enable people to submit a longer listing description, RSS feeds, Social media goodies, thumbnail (that works). What I wanted is a listing page with unique content on it, so spiders, search engines not to see it like a text link + max 15 words. And mainly I did it (see example). But it’s also up the submitter, of course, because if you want to have a chance to be found you does the right job.

But since the majority look at web directories in that old fashion… there isn’t that much we, as web directory owners can do.

Jasminedir, well done on your directory looks nice and unique.

However, anyone submitting to a directory hoping to get more than just a backlink will be sadly disappointed. If you do get some traffic then great, but don't expect any. Some of the biggest directories on the interet such as dmoz have so many categories and so many links on a category page that even with lots of visitors, the chances of clicking your link is slim.

So do you think link bait work on directory description söme thing like know behind the story or there some thing unique

If site and directory are struggling to get traffic why join dir instead focus seo content instead

I had checked and had 1000 pages listed in google site a year old and domain a month rank 48.5mil worldwide and 2.5mil in alexa its good or bad i have listed 20 directory

It depends on the directory parameters like - page rank, alexa rank, domain age...

n no of parameters are there but I must say 50% of directories on the web do not do well....

You will find some directories like this but one can not say that it will make instant traffic to your sites.

I can understand that question, because these days many people start a directory to get link back or earn some money, but there are top directories out there to send you traffic, get you good SERP and help you increase PR.
You can find hand picked top quality list of directories at http://searchenginecolossus.com/
This site is first i ever known to start list of directories. You can see that each country list has 5 or 6 PR.
