I heard a lot of people telling that submission in directories doesn't work for SEO... hell no! It works perfectly for me. I keep my own list of good directories and every time I submit sites there I can see improvements in 2-3 weeks. a) Make sure to submit only in quality directories. b) Don't submit in more than 150-200 directories becuse it will raise "red flag" and no more than 100 or 200. Submission in more directories could raise "red flag" c) Don't use paid or reciprocal directories. Use only free ones
So are you suggesting that there are many quality free directories out there? I'd like to hear some names...
I agree. It depends, the idea is not appear as a spammer. You can submit to as many directories you want, the idea is : 1. To do it in an organized and constant manner, for example 10 directories per day. 2. To submit only to quality directories. 1. This is not true, you can pay to get listed to gain a good exposure of traffic and to gain good back links from the quality directories which do not offer free listing. 2. Do not believe everything you hear even if its from someone you think its trusted, believe what you see.
Directory submission is still good for SEO if that directory has high traffic and with good reputation
i m getting some confusion bro .... u mean to say we should not submit or site into 150-200 directories .. is it for per month or for life time ? ..... why shouldnt we use paid n reciprocal ????
a) Make sure to submit only in quality directories. ++++++ correct b) Don't submit in more than 150-200 directories becuse it will raise "red flag" and no more than 100 or 200. Submission in more directories could raise "red flag" ++++++ not correct....why? c) Don't use paid or reciprocal directories. Use only free ones ++++++ not correct...if its a good site, why not? you don't loose something (little linkjuice from your own site...)
What you say is true, but it only makes up a small part of seo, you must do many other things to maxamize seo. Also as the others said could you provide a link to some of the quality directories
It's true that five years ago directories were more effective for site's promotion than now. But even now directories do not completely lost their significance as someone likes to say. Moreover, many popular free directories give excellent results for the site's SEO. This is especially noticeable for new sites. These are my advices to those who want to have a good result from submission into directories. 1. Use a good list of qualitive free directories. Do not seek to register the site into as many directories as you can. Quality and popularity of directory have a higher value. 2. Make a correct description for the site. The more the better. Description shouldn't be the list of keywords - write for people. Use some of the most relevant anchors. 3. Do not be lazy and besides general free directories submit your website into niche directories. Thematic links are also important. Do not expect big traffic from directories. After a couple of months (usually 3 months is enough) links to your website will be indexed and your website will rise in SERP. This will give you desired attendance.
something which people don't mention enough about directory submission which is critical - to make it appear as a natural/organic backlink profile, you should definitely be using several different anchor texts and also varying the description of your website. variety is the spice. and google likes that. imagine submitting the same anchor text (title) and description to say 400 different directories and having all of them accepted - what do you think any decent search engine is going to think about that. Use perhaps 5-8 different anchor texts when submitting and a good number of different descriptions. of course it's best to submit to quality directories that have been around for a while and it's a good idea to check a bit about what other kinds of sites are listed in the directory, that it's not a lot of spam or low quality sites that are being added. personally i also look for directories that have some kind ofunique template or a different number/kinds of categories. that tells you the owner isn't just mass producing the directories etc. many of the older more reliable and qualitative directories are unique in the numbers and kinds of categories they have. pay attention to this as well.... being listed in directories still has a lot of seo value in my opinion and experience and you want to use the chance to gain some exposure and get some traffic and good backlinks wisely...

You need high PR directories that are established and been on the web a long time. I definitely agree.
Bearing in mind that this thread started a year ago, I would say that today directory submissions have a really low ROI when I compare the time invested to the benefit I get from it. Don't forget, time IS money, SY
