    So True :)
And I will follow you :)

Although, sometime I really wonder if search engine ranking or PR really depend on Quality.

If you search for certain terms, you will see lots of MFA sites ranking on 1st/2nd pages and that only have links from poor sites. (lots of links)

So, I would say, it also depends on your site.

Blah, I like I said in the second post. It all depends on your situation. So many variables in there that it is hard to give a straight answer that fits everyone.

If you could only choose 100 quality's or 1000 poor, then sure quality is the answer.

Getting listing in proper category is more important. Relevency is more important than any thing else

    Quality!

I've started trying to look for directories to promote my website. But, I've found their are many dead directories around :( Waste my time searching.

I'd rather opt for quality. It is better to submit to a few quality directories than submit to hundreds or even thousands.

Even quality is somewhat subjective and varies based upon what your potential visitors are looking for.

In my primary niche, arts and crafts, there is one site that has been around much longer than mine and has many times more listings than my site does. So if one measures quality by number of listings - they win hands down.

On the other hand, my site has product pictures, longer descriptions, a details page, and uniquely has crafting tips. As to content - I win hands down.

PR - they win again. But most of my target audience (both submitters and visitors) probably don't know what that means anyway, nor do they care - they want traffic.

Traffic - they no doubt beat me there too - they've been around a lot longer.

Both are free to submit but offer additional advertising options.

SERPs - it varies on subject, but I often outrank them on subject terms. :) They outrank me for "craft site directory", but then again, that's their name. ;)

Which is the better quality site? Does it matter?

I say evaluate each directory on its own merits. Free, paid, or PR ranking don't really give a true indication. Deep categories, limited number of spammy sites, and category integrity are what I look for.

There's another crafty directory that has a ton of listings and they are on topic and have very few spammy listings. But, many of the sites listed no longer exist. At first blush, it looks quality, but in reality it is no longer being maintained.

That's part of the rub at trying to determine if a directory is truly a quality site. There's just so many different ways to define quality and from niche to niche it also probably varies.

When it comes to directories, I've gotten a bit more particular about it being a quality site before submitting. Whether or not it'll help me win the race to PR glory or SEO, I'm sticking with on-topic quality sites for my link building as my primary strategy for all of my sites - which means less links for my efforts, but most likely ones that will be there long-term.
