Hi, we have launched a new directory http://www.planettraveldirectory.com and taken over two directories that are a few months old.I am not going to list them here because I don't want to be accused of spamming the post. The only thing I can add is that we are trying a new method of tipping as we decide on how much to charge. So we are asking people to visit the sites and in one sentence-propose how much they are willing to pay as a tip (a can of beer or pizza) for listing and which part they want their link to appear. This offer will be withdrawn after the 100th proposal is received. I hope I have not violated by posting all these information here- if yes, please direct me to the right place.
Been a busy month on Jooomla so far. Submitter can include an RSS feed from their site Deep links with descriptions and, best of all... Finally made the first page of Google UK for 'SEO directory' Now looking forward to the next round of site additions and submissions over the coming months.

Why do you ask if they are joke jg? They are no worse than many out there? The only question I have is did this guy pay for each seperate licence of phpld he uses as this would work out as a pretty exensive hobby if he did.

Actually I was more concerned about whether he's paid for his licences as opposed to the shite quality of his content, if I'd started having a real go at them I would have had to compare them with some of the pretend to be better than the rest ones' out there and we wouldn't want that now would we, you get my drift.
What you have are link farms not directories. They kind of remind me of something that missed the toilet.
36 advertising banners and 20 affiliate text link ads on the submit page is a record. That is why I thought it was a joke. All you need to do is look at that one page and who cares what content he has in the directory. I just find it unbelievable that someone would even put up a directory like this. I find it even more amazing that anyone would submit to it, even for free.
Please learn to quote who your quoting, it makes it a lot easier and quicker to respond then. I looed at more than that one example you gave and many of them seemed to be just the same as most directories, full of empty pages. My popup stopper prevented me from suffering most crap but yep the example you gave did make a point that directories as we know it are dying a death because of tits like this. Did phpld actually sell him all these licences is my question though? Are they just as much to blame? Or did this person just illegally use a single licence for multiple installs? I don't, the directory scene isn't policed and thats the problem, anyone can set up a mass of link farms simply by abusing what we offer for free. (I've got an idea in the melting pot to try and prevent this from happening with the phpLynx script) it might just go some way to helping clean up this mess.
In a way directory owners could help clean up thier own scene and im sure you ways could only help and in that even more could be done. By not submitting to these farms in any way shape or form would be one way but tough to look at every door and window in a huge appartment building. Another way may be to have a small logo or similar that indicated your directory was say a directory ethics member, this would indicate that you in general followed ethical directory building, exactly how this could work on an open scale im not sure but one example may be something like If sites like directory rate / directory critic only supported ethical directories and im sure they do now and you listed with them and was approved then you could display the directory ethics badge ( this would not depend on your template, or directory type , layout or any other fact than you were not supporting link farming or improper use in any way ), to veryify the banner you would provide a link back to your listing on that site, this would stop people using it when not passed. probably a stupid idea but going with the flow as a way all genuine people could group to form a united front and to show that we care about our industry. It would also help directory submission services as they could draw from these acreddited lits. like i said probably stupid or there may be a better or easier way to make some thing similar happen. ?
Got a new logo for polyfuzion.org (webmaster & graphics dir) and also added some quality links to it. Still waiting on the PR update, so i can start the next phase of promotion.
There seems to be fewer new directories starting up this month. I hope I am right on this because quailty as opposed to quantity is the order of the day with directories are concerned these days
