    Hi,

I know Directories were good to be in in the past, but theyir importance seems to have reduced somewhat. Does anyone know how much weight Google places in your site beeing included in Directories?

    Thanks

I still find it useful in seo. Not very powerful now for backlinks but yes very useful for one-way. I can say these are not time wasting.

If you can get link from quality directory, then ofcourse the link will have value.

only those phpld (and other similar script based) directories are dead which people were creating in 20 minutes. There are still some good directories left.

The company who is working on my site, ciniva.com, is listed in many directories. They are also beginning to list my site in directories, too.

Directory submissions are still useful but you can't get ranked for higher competition keywords now. In terms of PR, getting a PR2 is still feasible.

    Hey nick01uk,
Let me put it dis way....Directories were and are still good....the only catch is that you should look at good Search engine friendly directories. I agree because of newer methods of getting links, the directories have slipped down the ranking, but they still are a good and reliable source of links:)

Google has always been ambiguous about the value assigned to a certain link building activity, and understandably so, because people would otherwise just overdue the things that reap the most benefit and would avoid doing the lesser important ones. They basically tell you what you should do & so long as you follow that as the Bible, you’d get rewarded!

Having said that, Directory submissions do help in some sort of way, although with the eclipse of time, I’d have to say it’s marginal. But remember, every drop leads to a mighty ocean, and given that they’re one of the simpler ones to do, make the most of it. But remember, while you’re building links to your site, don’t just rely on directory submissions, but do it in combination with other things and you surely would see success

Directories are still useful but they're not as good as what they used to.
I still use them for some of my sites :)

Directories are reducing in importance. If you do a 1000 submissions, less than 10% may be shown in Google Webmasters.

I think you don't loose anything if you spend some days on directory submission. As it was already mentioned it doesn't help a lot but still it helps for getting a better PR.
So I would find a long list of quality dofollow directories and spend some days on this. It's free and it requires only your wish and time

Submitting to directories has lost it's efficiency, especially to free directories. To my mind you can think of directory submission after you have selected the proper keywords, optimized your website pages, content, built backlinks and so on.
