I used Afroo directory too, for me it is very good and it is free! The only problem is that the keyword moderation, it is time consuming as you have to do manually each time. But it is fast and easy to add websites. Another advantage are free tamplets. I am planning to create directories on .info domains. Do you think these are spam, worthless domains? Ad why? What kind of domains do you advice for dierectories? Do you submit to .info catalogues at all?
Put it this way, anyone not willing to spend the few $ to purchase a .com or whatever is not to be trusted, if you are not willing to invest a few more dollars in a domain then you dont deserve to get paid submissions or ad revenue. Dont buy a .info because its cheaper, im my eyes if you create a directory on a .info its cheap and worthless, if you create more than one on a .info its definately bad, if you create a network of them then you shouldn't be allowed to do what you do. You will learn in the long run, by then it will be too late though.
You will be lumped in with all the get-rich-quick folks who thought directories were an easy way to make money. The formula of buy a cheap .info, use a free script, a free template and a free database of categories, is a recipe for failure. Directories are like any site on the web, you'll only get out of it what you put into it. From your post, it also sounds like you will fall prey to accepting any listing rather than the time consuming effort of moderation. My suggestion is to look for a different project.
Thank you very much for your opinions, I thought it was a good idea to start from cheaper .info domains. I have seen some .info directories with high page rank, that's why I thought about it.
Many of the high PR .info directories have fake pagerank or rankings left over from when the domain was owned by someone else and used for an entirely different purpose. If you want to make a real go of it and try to make a good directory, matching a new .com domain with a theme or concept to create a brand is your best bet. Stay away from creating a network and spend your time creating something of value with long-term potential. A well-run and successful directory can keep you plenty busy.
Avoid a dot info directory. They may not all be spam fests but certainly there is a stigma attached to them to the extent that people who may be willing to part with money won't even look at them. Are you prepared to work for nothing for a couple of years while you build the directory and it's reputation whilst spending money promoting it?
( most of them are spam, i think ) Hey not all .info are bad some of it top quality, many of .com and .net are spam. The admin can make his directory spam.
Not every one can afford a $9.99 .com, in some parts of the countries a .INFO might be price just right for them, a .COM might be too much. It will be judge base on the amount of effort you put into it and the contents, not by the name or what .domain you use.
I would judge them based on quality and not solely on domain extension. However from my past experiences, most of them are spam while some are not. But again, "spam" web directory can be on all domain extensions (com net biz org info).
Lol, there are hundrets other spammy gadgets from this developer http://www.google.com/ig/directory?q=AppHaven&type=gadgets&num=1000 And, there is violence inside videos i.e. http://www.google.com/ig/directory?type=gadgets&url=cool-vids.info/widgets/xml/3Bn7FvRbEUI.xml Can´t belive this
the truth is that spammers like to register .info domain as web directory using the same template and database, since the domain fee is cheap on Godaddy for $1 per year only.
I personally don't even submit to free .info directories. I don't think i would ever submit to a paid .info directory
Well said. There are definitely some good .info directories out there that have been around more than 2-4 years. These have stood the test of time, meaning that the owners are in it for the long-term. So many of the new .info directories never make it into their second year. Your new .info directory will be lumped in with all the others and be looked on as crap.
I personally see no difference from .info to .com and I can get either for just a few bucks. The domain of .info doesn't add any difference to the spamminess of a domain. Its how the domain is used that matters.
