it,s true that directories help you on Alexa and PR rating to increase but it is not very help full for backward links actually I found that Google do not consider most of directory listing as back link but consider it in it,s index i,m not throwing arrows in the air this actually happened to me when i submit a blog of mine the major search engines they placed the listing information above my blog in there index why this happen ?
How did you find that Google does not consider most directory listings as a backlinks? (hope you weren't basing this on the link: operator) How does a directory listing help the Alexa ranking?
I have sites under 1 year old that are PR 4's with links from only free directories. And directory listings do help with ranking, providing your niche is not that competitive. If it is competitive, then you will be opening up your wallet to rank anyway. I assume you are saying that one of your directory listings outranks your blog. That's a clear case of the directory site having more "authority" and ranking ability then your blog. Don't worry about this as it should only be temporary. As your blog gains more backlinks, you will outrank your directory submissions. Just keep adding quality content to your blog and building backlinks. If you are working consistently on building backlinks, within two weeks you should outrank your directory listings. Good luck, and happy link building...
Yes alviother, You are right but i am not agree with you 100%, directory also help to increase page rank but its took to much time and 1000s of submissions. because of 1000s of out bound links. basically the page rank of directory or page divide on outbound links and single submission can get a .000001% of the directory page rank. this Practice will help in Alexa yes its help and also increasing the number of traffic's. another thing that google crawler observe that is relevent sites link has more value and required less number to get better page rank. i hope this will help you
Just keep building links and you'll float to the top. When your site is young often times the directory sites will rank higher than you for your own keywords.
That something so different ,you actually give me a calculator to evaluate that on how many submissions i get my rank increase. thanks
Directories are the easy way to get one-way back links. It is very helpful. I know some are useless because the directory editors are not updating properly and maintain the quality. You should check the quality of directory then submit your website. And directory submission never improve alexa ranking. Alexa count visitors on different algo.
Once again I am seeing that there are still a lot of webmasters more worried with the page rank then the content of the website itself. It's a fact that a visitor will only return to a website that has relevant content and this is the only way to get sales , which is the ultimate goal of any webmaster. So, why do so many people keep worrying themselves about page ranks!!!
When I submit to directories, I tried to go for those with some quality control and those which can bring in some traffic, besides a good inbound link. It is trial and error, after submitting, just check in on traffic stats.
