Directories, Directories!

    Hi,
I have some questions about directories:

    1. Can links from a directory really effect my site in google?
    2. What are the best directories out there?
    3. How can I know which directory to choose?
    4. If you had $1000 to spend in order to get your site to the first places, what would you do?

    1)Yes
    2)Free Directories
3)Use a directory submitter in dp marketplace but not the cheaper ones buy small packages every month.
4)Use the above, buy some site wide link from good related sites, post on some forum with your signature.

If you have $1000,- to spend buy slow directory submission (not 1000+ at ones). Find a content writer (or do yourself) and let it submit with your url in content.
Ask for onpage optimization report (Metatags, headers, content etc).

For 1000 you can do quite a lot, to improve your ranking.

Dont go for the 1 mil + search engine submission services there a waste of money.

You need to acquire more knowledge before you start spending money. Then you will know the best ways to spend it. You will make mistakes if you try to do it in a hurry without learning about link building first.

I am pretty experienced with SEO, although I am new here... Just want to learn some more about directories.
With so many free directories, when is it worth to pay for a directory? How can I be sure that I am paying for something that worth it?
    Any directories you recomend?

I prefer to do my own directory research. Find one of the many lists out there and sort them by PR or Traffic. Then try to determine where their traffic is coming from. Try some search terms on their pages to see if they have organic traffic. Look at their back link profile to estimate their referral traffic (do they have links from real content pages). If it looks like the site gets a lot of traffic, especially organic traffic then it's probably worth paying to be listed.

Of course there are also free directories out there too. I submit to them...its like buying a lottery ticket.

I wouldn't recommend spending too much on directories. Yahoo is a good obvious choice if you have the money.
Submit to blogs, forums, and free directories while studying and learning more about the best place to spend your money.
    Good luck

Oh please do not spend that much money on directory submission. Submit to 10 directories each day. You can easily find free directories to submit to here on DP. Save your money for something else. Maybe perhaps getting a social submission service would be better. If I were you and had that much money, I'd hire someone to get me backlinks from blogs by commenting on them. These links are very legit and get you traffic PLUS SERP.

That's because your link's relevancy is high. Directories pointing out to a directory. It makes sense and thus your rankings :)

Don't spend money too much. You just post on PR4+ forum and submit on free submission directories (PR1+). You can get high PR in half year.

There usually aren't many home runs in the newly opened or marketed website so learning were to spend your money is the best bet. Learn from the best in your industry and see were they spend there money on advertising.

Then add the funds to an effective advertising meduim
