And the Correct Answer Is: Some are a waste of time, some arent. The big G decides which ones it gives weight to. [Damn... I just ended a sentence in a preposition... I'm going to hell.] Probably because the alternative is answering the ziliionth thread asking if submitting to Yahoo! is worth the money.
I think directories are great, easy way to get links, even though some of the good ones take some time to process. Also, you can choose your anchor text and target various niche terms that do not take a lot of juice to rank for.
some time back I use 2200 submisisn one of DP member and I'm happy i jsut apid $20 for hole and I think it's retunm me 50 times
I have submitted to about 30 directories in the last 20 or so days and it seems like none of them have provided me with a backlink...Do you find this wierd? Did I do something wrong?
depends which directories you submit to a lot of the newer directories will review and approve quicker until the flow of submissions gets too much and then its pending queue time you also would need to make sure you adhere to their guidelines (if any) as this could be your reason for no approvals..
I've found that my best directory links were the ones that had a RELEVANT category title. "Weddings" --- my main KW, gives me the best results. "Music" or "Entertainment" is my backup categories if the "Wedding" option is not available. Also, the ones that automatically sort the results by Page Rank, have the highest PR ultimately, because its in their best interest to put the highest Page Rank sites on Page One of each sub-category. I'm averaging 6-10 days approval time, at most free directories. The really busy ones (PR 5 and up) tend to be 30-90 days. On average, I get about 98% of my free directory listings approved.
can i ask why? couse i heard that so many times and still dont understand i want to be first on my keyword so why submit on other?
Who thinks that directories are a thing of the past, let us say, where else can we put a permanent link for free.
I use blogs for my free links, quality posts on niche related blogs. Before I submitted to directories in the same niche as possible. Only I you submit a site with PR2 and higher you have a good chance for a free backlink. The rest wants reciprocal or paid. Now for how many PR5+ directories should I pay for a link to get good serp traffic?.
People who cry to get listed in dmoz they never get chances so just make it best and submit it will be there..
HI All If you post your url in the title or description.. or you spam your title or description with keywords you are most likely to get your submission rejected in most good directories. Also if you try to submit a deep link for a free submission you will get rejected.. I reject about 70% of sites submitted to my directory... but I do check my directory each day... and in all cases even free listings get approved in less then a week.... paid listings are reviewed in 24-48 hours. But yes it is worth submitting your site to as many free directories as you can because you never know that directory may become the next big thing.... and it only takes 1 min or so per submission. But directories are not the only thing you need to do to build backlinks... Thanks Tom
