Sounds a lot like somebody panicking about being penalized and pointing fingers. It’s always easier to blame others for your mistakes.
"building links-popularity through directory-script reciprocation does not work anymore" oh really..wasnt this news like umm since the Florida update?
Spammy directories alone certainly won't help you rank, but I don't think you can blame them exclusively for getting "banned". An old trusted site with decent backlinks can probably get away with lots of pr0 directories better than a new site though.
That's funny, because Google have their own directory. It's not even unique. So you're suggesting they're hypocrites.
Never seen that before from a company that used to provide such a script. Not the best idea is it? posting that message on their own site even though they used to be involved in such business. If you have just arrived there to buy a script and you see that they now think one of their own scripts that they used to provide is evil, you're hardly going to have much confidence in their other products. I love how so many use the word Official, theres no official when it comes to whats happening online, lol Official because they said, lol, i wish people would realise that if directories were not wanted on google then they would simply deindex every single last one from their search engine.
There is nothing wrong with directories today. The only problem people may have with them is if their content sucks. Another theory of mine is that if you install a popular directory script and use the default template, Google may rank your site lower because of the duplicate template in the serps so many times. Google does have a method for detecting duplicate content right down to the html code. You can find this info in the US patent wevsite. (i'm too lazy to look for it myself), but I have read it before. Other than that, if your site is unique, there is no worries, even if the site is a directory.
Slightly off topic but they are definitely hypocrites http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/02/09/pay-per-post-google-uses-every-trick-to-beat-yahoo-in-japan/
sounds very much like smoke and mirrors to me. Until I read something concrete from Google I shall ignore this.
Hmm, sounds like a company who offered a product for sale and when they failed as a business they blamed the industry instead of themselves. I've never understood why companies post such nonsense on their sites when all it does it make them look ridiculous and send the message to the folks who did buy their product that they were stupid to do so.
The text is quoted, the title too. If you don't understand what these signs are, then you don't have to reply at all.
I not hat sure that directories are evil. because still directories are probably one of the most important part of SEO.if need to get some permanent backlinks then u have to knock the door of directory anyway. this is my personal view. thanks all.
I thinks he's talking about *your* title to this thread, which was not a concise summary of the posts content, but an attempt to grab attention.
I managed to ban all my competitors by just submitting their sites to a few free general directories... NOT!
