I am getting about 1/3 of the traffic on my site coming from the "(direct) / (none)" category, according to Google Analytics. I have looked a bit into what that means, and I have found that this typically means visits from bookmarks or typing the address directly into the URL. But there's no way my (fairly new) site has this many people visiting in this fashion each day! Do you have experience with the "(direct) / (none)" category being oddly high? What do you think causes this?
Are you getting this consistently or was it just a few days? One of our venture experienced something similar. We saw a huge jump in direct traffic over a few days. After some investigations, it turned out that particular site was featured on... TV! It also might be just a setting in your analytics that is not set correctly, which is most likely the case.
Yup, since your website is new and you are getting most of traffic as Direct then the most probably the traffic is originating from your own IPs. so add a IP filter in your analytics account and restrict the IPs that you or your team is using so that the visits originating from these IPs could not be tracked.
