I hear here all the time how directories are useless (free ones) and dangerous with Google (paid ones) yet the number one site under my top search phrase - promotional items - seems to only use the above mentioned methods for their SEO. Can directories still carry more weight then people think?
If you submit to a directory, let it be one that is difficult to get into. A quality directory will manually review every site submitted and reject the spam. Quality directories do not have to be paid, they just have to be picky. So if a directory says they approve everyone, you might want to reconsider submitting your site there.
Hi, According to me directory submissions can be of great importance for developing links. There are n number of directories out there, but it does not implies you submit to all of them. Submit to the ones with good PR. Directory submissions is very efficacious if done in a correct manner and manually. regards sripat
Directories are just like any other site. Some are good for both traffic and SEO and some are crap. Take a little time to research directories in your niche and you'll find some that get traffic from the search engines. Those directories will drive traffic to your site and also carry serious link juice. General directories that are well edited and have tight categories will help you rise in the SERPs, but don't usually drive much traffic.
I wonder if anyone ever submits to free directories for traffic? I've been involved with the Internet for a very long time and I cannot ever recall getting any large amount of traffic from directories. Even when we had a free directory when I was webmaster for Gambling . com most of the traffic to the directory was from other websites wanting an inclusion. The out bound clicks were negligible.
generally directory submission improves our pr but as above said we have to submit to them whose Pr is good and high
Quality directories are good for PR and SERP. I have seen some sites get better serp only from directories.
