Got one question, I'll be setting up a site which is going to to have very much connected content(category) each having vast no. of pages.
    SO what should I do
    dir.domain.tld or domain.tld/dir ?

what would you like a subdomain or a directory?
How will google react to the site content?

Well, I would recommend that you go with domain.tld/dir so that you will get some backlinks from directory lists and forums for your main domain and reciprocal links. But this is a rather old strategy and I would say that you should go with dedicated domains.

dedicated domains will be too expensive, and I think putting subdomains will lead to change of host.
I'll do that if I can expect better SEO results from subdomains,
