Few days before, our website is appearing on the 10th page for keyword "online shopping". buy when i updated the meta tags after some while it stop appearing on the 100th page don't know what happened can any one suggest what could we do to regain the ranking website name is tradus.in
meta tag like description can impact your ranking, since google takes it into consideration. Please note, your keyword/phrase is very-very competitive. You also stated 10th page, and stopped appearing on 100th page. So, which page your website was originally?
@ montreal classifieds we are now no where in google.co.in with keyword "online shopping" we have also put some content in the footer but same content is in footer for all pages, does it be one of the reason
Keyword tags aren't read by google at all,and the meta description tag is NOT used as part of the ranking algorithm, it's function is provide a snippet to describe the listing. It's extremely unlikely that anything done to metatags could cause the drop. More likely is that the rankings have dropped because your back inks have been devalued and considered as spammy.
Changing all pages could impact that way. One day I changed title structure on all pages and at some point my traffic sharply went down, and recovered within several weeks. - the keyword meta tag not used by google and I agree with that, but not with respect to description meta tag. When you see result on google SERP, the keywords you searched with also highlighted in bold in description.
That doesn't make the snippet part of the ranking algorithm. It isn't. http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html "And it's worth noting that while accurate meta descriptions can improve clickthrough, they won't affect your ranking within search results."
Magda is correct, the description tag does not improve SERPs it just gives preference to show that description rather than snippets of content. If you search for keywords that do not appear in the description, then it may show some snippets of onpage content. Changing the meta description or keywords won't affect your site however if you changed the Title that could affect it. There's so many factors taken into account for Google's ranking method that it could be impossible to figure out exactly what changed your ranking. My best guess is that some of your valuable backlinks were dropped or like Magda said, considered spammy and penalized. My advice would be to revise your title tag if you made any changes, revert them back to what they were and also try to make the very 1st sentence on your page include the most relevant keywords ("online shopping") and not the navigational links. Use a spider simulator to see how the search engines read the text on your site so you get a better idea of how to improve it for keyword positioning and density. Hope you can get that position back, I know it can be frustrating to lose your ranking overnight. Good luck
