Hi guys, Just putting the finishing touches to www.dinnerplaces.co.uk and am looking for some opinions. I'm having a debate with my other half about the colours on the site, so any comments on those in particular are very welcome Cheers, Baz
Very cool website. Congrats. I like very much the design, specially the colors. I only have two suggestions to make: - replace the google link units by a google ad unit. - remove the "Sponsors" title above the google ad unit...it's against the TOS.
Thanks for the review. Wow, I must've developed a blind spot for the "Sponsors" title. I put it up there when I thought I'd use that space to promote random sponsored listings (which I will do at some point) but decided to stick AdSense in there for the minute until I have a load of sponsored listings. I'll take it out now.
I forgot to say that I like this kind of websites because it's a usefull manner of a directory website. It's not like hundreds of directory websites that you see around the web with no extra feautures and without a main goal...just a repository of links. So, I repeat, congrats.
Ta very much. I have big plans for the directory over the coming couple of years. Just need to sell a couple of hundred listings to get the money first!
The colours do NOT work at all. You have a warm colour, and a cool colour and they clash badly. Find a site that shows complimentary colours, on a colour wheel or chart, and take screenshots and test the differences.
Hmm. Interesting. Not sure about the other people in this thread, whether they be male or female (though I suspect male), but I'm assuming you're female, Amy? Seems that men like the colour scheme where women don't. Certainly that's the trend so far of everyone I've shown it too. In fact all the women who have given me their opinion have said the colours are TERRIBLE. Interesting that. Anyway, I'll look about and see if I can come up with something which appeals to both sexes
Well colour blindness incidence is higher in men. "Some 10 million American men—fully 7 percent of the male population—either cannot distinguish red from green, or see red and green differently from most people. This is the commonest form of color blindness, but it affects only 0.4 percent of women." So women could be more sensitive to colours in general.
I also have a personal theory that men - by and large - couldn't really give a sh*t It's that whole "How does this dress look?" "It looks nice" thing. We have no opinion on things like colours the vast majority of the time. It's just our way I've come up with a new colour scheme which I've attached. Any thoughts?
The colors of the attachment are also good. But, I still prefer those you have online. But...i'm a guy. LOL
You must care because you asked about the colours. In my experience men complain a lot more about the look of websites than women do. The new one doesn't clash, its ok looking.
No, I was 100% happy with the colours until my other half complained about them! They looked like they did the job to me!
The border/mustard colour on the first version does remind me of vomit, still maybe some guys associate a curry/indian with a good night and vomit
