dimishing SEO returns with multiple links from one forum?

Am I correct in assuming that 5 backlinks from one PR5 forum and 5 from another PR5 forum is better than having all 10 backlinks from the same site? In other words, do the search engines count each successive backlink from a site less than the previous one?
And if so, at what point to people feel additional backlinks from forum signatures are no longer worth the effort? For example, for SEO purposes, is your 20th different backlink from the same site pretty much worthless ?

I'm pretty sure that the 2nd (& onward) backlink from the same page to a site is nearly worthless.

Forum sig links by their own nature have little to no weight.

interesting... do you think google and other search engines have something in their algorithms to recognize a link is coming from a signature and then automatically discredit it?

you are right. i wouldn;t say the rest of the links from the same site is worthless but they are devalued at some point

I have read that forum posting is a great way to build backlinks and some of the results i have seen prove this.
