Hi guys, I currently have a dilemma.

I'm currently using blogspot for my site. However, I'm considering to make a change but I'm not sure of where to go.

1 consideration I'm having is getting a domain name and mapping it to blogspot so I don't need to pay for the hosting. But I'm wondering if this would affect anything. I hope you guys can enlighten me and if there are any other solutions, do let me know.

ps; would prefer to keep my budget REAL low.

Cheapest/easiest way of doing it would be to buy a domain name through Blogger. If you did that I'm pretty sure all your existing (.blogspot.com) backlinks would redirect to the right pages, so you'd retain a lot of your traffic. Starting with a new domain name would mean starting from scratch PR wise, but it wouldn't take long to get things back the way they were.

If budget is your main consideration, you can always use the godaddy coupon, purchase it and then point your Blogger blog to your domain by setting up domain mapping. There are quite a number of online guides that teach you on this. Your pr will be gone and traffic will decrease but the effect is momentarily once the search engine crawl and index all the pages again.

domain mapping is merely changing the domain and mapping it to blogspot. doesn't really help much in SEO as compared to hosting it yourself.

i was really wondering if there was really a need for such move. i know self hosted blogspot/wordpress would be the best but what about just domain mapping being hosted for free on these platforms?
