Digitalpoint servers down

In the UK digitalpoint servers were down for about 30 mins today (at least)

Consequence, sites with coop ads on them were not displaying any web content until the links to digitalpoint servers time-out.

    Does this happen often?

    First time I've seen it.

... so the ads are not showing... not "any web content"

    Please clarify your comment.

I'm not so sure it was a "DigitalPoint" problem. I couldn't connect to many different Servers this morning. In fact, as soon as I could get on to the forum I checked to see if there was some type large scale server attack being reported.

    I noticed this aswell.

I was getting this timed out error message relating to the co op ads which prevented the forum pages from loading properly. It seems to be ok now.

It was down at least an hour.

Is it possible to update the script so that it times out in a shorter time period (say 1 second?).

Yep, my pages were veeerrrry slow loading this morning (to the point of getting a page-not-found error) until I removed the coop ads. All ok now. We will need a way to adjust the timeout.

//or maybe a way to show cached ads if connection
//to dp not made within a second?

If that's true then what a hassle. All of the sites I tried to get on were forums and not one of them would even display the front page. :(

Yep, essentially the co-op took down my servers from 9:07 AM -10:31 EST. The script has to be updated to accommodate such a situation in the future! Sorry, Shawn a little more work for you.

My whole site was down for over an hour and none of our engineers could figure out why for a long time.

It's not cool when the Co-Op ads can bring the whole website down...

I too had trouble. However, an hour of down time is a very small price to pay for the huge rise I've seen in my SERPs because of this ad network. I'm sure many of you will agree. Down time is inevitable.

It does seem troubling however, that when the ad servers go down, so do all of the sites in the network. Is there a way to rewrite the include file to prevent this?

I'm still experiencing a huge packet loss for websites outside europe so it must be a worm or something similar...

Also, this timeout thing is really not nice at all, my website hangs and doesn't display any further because of the include... Timeout should be for about 5 seconds or so... Or the connection to the server be made every hour, instead of always...

That may happen even to Google, MS and Akamai anytime. i am sure that Shawn is already working on and permanently solve the time out issue on ads.

We should be patient and be more constructive ;)

Everything seem to be fine now. But I just clicked on a ad that seems to be coming up frequently for "elliptical trainers" and it produces the equivalent of a 404 error.

I agree. No one wants down time and I'm sure everything will be done to prevent this in the future.

I am available to test any changes that may need to be made.

There is a pretty ugly strain of virus going around right now and seems to be wreaking havoc on a lot of sites that I visit.

I don't know if the DP servers were actually down, BUT, has everyone that has complained in this thread, donated to the new server fundraiser? Just curious ;) ...

It's not just DP... I've found the internet in general is sluggish at the moment, I'm on 2mb broadband, so it's not usually a problem, and VS I paid my $250 :p hehe
