    Good point.

... and it's not like signatures give much (if any?) weight to anchor text in the search engine results.

Since these forums consist of thousands of pages all with a relatively low pr and then each post has 3 or 4 links per person per post the relative ranking weight transfered is minimal (assuming SE's transfer weight to forum links at all) although the more you post the more pages your links are on so theoretically you can accrue more weight by posting more often but something tells me the SE's have this figured out.

The sad fact is that someone who really helps people out and posts a lot of useful information will get the same relative weighting as someone who posts just as often with useless information.

If there was a way to lock down who the legitimate posters and also who the fakers were perhaps a disproportionate amount of weight could be credited to the legitimate poster .

One way to implement this would be requiring "100 reputation points (pulled this from the air)" to make your signature links active... otherwise your links are no followed.

    Just my 2 cents.

If digitpoint is transfering ranking weight through their forums it should be some good link juice:

Digitalpoint quick stats: Apr 9, Mar 31
Links from Yahoo Directory 27, 29
Links from DMOZ Directory 9, 15
Links from EDU domains 3,130, 2,450
Links from GOV domains 4, 3
