When is the last time you used a directory to actually find a resource successfully? Now offset that against the last time(s) you used a search engine to find something.

Conventional directories aren't worth the domain registration fee IMO. They need to be significantly different to draw in some real traffic and get some real value.

 

There is nothing wrong with creating a good one.

Not really. Directories attached to websites are a valuable content addition to that website's specific niche.

Niche directories, are also quite usefull for many, including myself.

 

What do you want from that link? PR? You're sharing it with 20+ others. Anchor text? I'd be surprised if G et al let it count from a resource that has an incoming to outgoing link ratio of about 1:100. Traffic? I bet that 99% of those 4.5 million directories have less traffic than IamNed's fan-site. DP probably gets more traffic than 80% of those directoroes cumulatively.

Nahh forget about it. We're deleting plenty of dodgy links every day already. The Quick Link drop-down is a mini directory with all you need.

may be you are right, but when this forum created new, shawn also wanna get listed in Dmoz like others, however he hate. BUt he know some GAlgo. He Knew that if he listed http://www.digitalpoint.com/ in Dmoz, he will get high page rank.
